Also, I didn't get why Hiyori's foot hurt afterwards. Urahara = balls of steel? Haha.

Was Sousuke Aizen just chilling in some other dimension and Shinji ripped it open as he walked by or something? Really cool how Shinji caught on to Aizen's ulterior motives so early on. I really like how this is going.

Thats kind of what I thought. On the bottom right panel you see Aizen stepping/waking out of it.

Edit: I really want to see a battle between Shinji and Aizen in the present time.

Yeah, maybe they were all vizard-ish long before the Hyoguken or w/e it's called. Mayhaps the chain link eating away and getting out of the pit or whatever Ichigo did was the way they unlocked the hollowish part of their being before the Hyoguken; Urahara simply developed it after being captain for awhile and becoming friends with Shinji's crowd.

Lol I was about to edit my post again saying something like that. I going to say I wonder if they had their hollow powers at that time too or is Shinji just that strong. I wonder if Shinji has an immunity to or break out easily from Aizen's Ban Kai.

I don't think Shinji has hollow powers yet, if anything this story arc is going to show how they achieve it and how that affects everyone in Soul Society.

As for Aizen, he probably was using his shikai like camoflage and shinji was able to sense his reiatsu behind the illusion or something like that. Manga like Naruto and Bleach seem to be big on the whole perceiving what can't be seen thing. However it does show that Aizen was a conniving mother fucker even back then.

they gave his moms name once before I believe, and that wasnt it. She was also killed by the regular hollow Grand Fisher, so i doubt, if she was a shinigami, that she was even at vice captain level, let alone royal guard.

and I assume Urahara was wearing a cup.

If we can assume Gigais are basically soulless genetic bodies (after all, they eat and I think Rukia even bled while getting injured fighting that tongue bomb thingy), then I imagine reproduction is possible between a human and a spirit entity.

Though, I'm kind of wondering more if people in Soul Society can reproduce. We've seen younger versions of Gin and Rangiku, among others, so it stands to reason they age. However, we don't really have a clue how real world time translates to spirit years since some are obviously well over 100 years old.

Aging in Soul Society doesn't seem to follow any rules at all. Rukia and Renji grew from kids into adults between the time they met and the present, and when Rukia and Ichigo first meet she says she's lived "almost ten times longer" than Ichigo. Rangiku and Gin also grow up, as you said.

On the other hand, none of the people in this flashback look any different than they do 100 years later. For the adults I don't suppose it matters, but for Hiyori it's a little confusing. There's also the case of Yachiru. She's a baby when she first meets Ken-chan, and then grows to her 5-year-old look by the time they meet Ikkaku before any of them become shinigami, and she hasn't changed at all since then.

Also, Toshiro has only aged physically about 4-5 years since the time Rukia, Renji, Kira, and Momo entered the shinigami academy, even though that was definitely more than 6 years earlier (the academy is stated to be a 6 year program at one point -- it's more likely that 15-25 years have passed since then).

I just took at as they control the way they age, looks wise. The old man is always hunched over and has other characteristics old people have but when he went into battle against the two other captains during the Soul Society arc he was ripped, muscles smooth, shiny and glisteny (I don't think glisteny is a word but I had to add "y" to fit in the sequence).

With the Vizards it looks like all thats changed was their hair styles and Loves sunglasses.

maybe its something as nonsensical as their spiritual maturity. Not compared to others, but in terms of their own development. Like how Hitsugaya is more like a child and its already been explained he still has a ways to grow in terms of power.

Anyway, more speculation... Aizen frames the murders of the current vizard to allow them to escape Soul Society after their vizard practices are discovered. (Similar to what he did with himself)

personally I just think its simply they want the chars to conform to w/e character designs they made up

edit: i think an important part of the mystery is how the vizard are viewed by soul society currently, if they even think they are alive. but since they broke from the main story for this flashback, we probably won't know until this arc is done, at which point it becomes moot

This reminded me that Rukia is shown to be an infant when she first appeared in Rukongai, and was abandoned by her sister.

while I agree the 6th captain is a kuchiki, I'm not to certain if those 2 are the same. only thing they have in common is that they're old.
