I'm going to go way out on a limb and say the 11th captain is Isshin.
It would explain why Kubo didnt show current Zaraki Kenpachi in the flashback and why noone would recognize (Ichigo)Kurosaki's name. I'm assuming of course that when current Kenpachi and Isshin fought for the captain spot, Isshin faked his death so he could live in the real world uninterrupted by soul society.

You are amazing dude, I had this same idea ever since I saw Isshin get his Shinigami powers back. It would also make sense if you think about it-- Zaraki Kenpachi got his haori offa the previous 11th Captain. He's sleeveless and tattered. Isshin's Shinigami Captain haori is but a piece of cloth over his shoulder, almost it like was ripped up... it all makes sense in my honest opinion.

Also this shot out to me, reading his bio on Wikipedia:

"During the Arrancar arc, Zaraki appears to Ichigo as his instinct and desire to win, explaining to him that they were both the type of people who lived to fight battle after battle. After Orihime is taken to Hueco Mundo, Kenpachi arrives with Byakuya Kuchiki to retrieve T?shir? Hitsugaya's group and bring them back to Soul Society. Later, in Hueco Mundo, Kenpachi comes to Ichigo's aid during his battle with the arrancar Tesla, dealing the arrancar a mortal blow with a single strike and then engaging Nnoitra Jiruga in battle. The bolded part just jumps at me that there's a connection between Ichigo, Isshin and Kenpachi, maybe because Isshin probably had the same mentality back then.

Ive recently thought of a hole in that theory tho. when Isshin killed Grand Fisher, Shinji said he didnt recognize his reitsu. suppose it is possible he could have just forgot tho.

He could have forgotten... it does seem akward that he'd try to decipher Isshin's reitsu at that particular moment, lemme read that chapter again and get back at ya.

At the beginning of the Arrancar Arc, Isshin kills Grand Fisher while Shinji is fighting/recruiting Ichigo. It's during that time Shinji mentions he doesn't recognize the "stranger's reitsu" or something like that, clearly referring to Isshin.

After the second Arrancar invasion and Orihime is kidnapped, Byakuya and Kenpachi show up after everything is revealed by Soul Society and they declare they're not going to rescue her. They're there to ensure Hitsugaya's group comes back to Soul Society instead attempting a rescue on their own.

Wow totally forgot about Isshin fighting that huge Arrancar. I didn't know it was Grand Fisher though, that's interesting. Did he know it was the hollow that killed his wife? That is the same hollow right? Only during the fight he was arrancar or whatever right? I remember he also had a huge ass sword? Man I can't believe I forgot all this shit. I need to take notes from now on...

That's talking about when Kenpachi and Byakuya show up in Orihime's room to tell everyone not to go to HM yet. The syntax is just a little weird.

Also, with Shinji not recognizing Isshin's reiatsu, if their group left soul society around 100 years ago, Isshin might 've been one of the replacement captains to fill the holes they left. Also, since Urahara knows him, it suggests that the incident that made Shinji's group leave was different from Urahara creating his Hokyoku(sp?).
