    new PC

I'm looking for a solid gaming desktop that can run Vanguard: SoH without crapping out like my laptop is doing atm

anyone know of a place I can get something good for a reasonable price?

I'm in the beta for vanguard atm, and the computer that i was using for ffxi that could run it at max specs without an issue cannot run vanguard at the lowest possible settings, just to give you an idea of what i'm looking for.

    thanks

Even though Dell bought them, Alienware still build sexy machines. High cost obviously, but I'm yet to hear a bad report about them.

If you can build your own, or know someone that can, I highly advise you to do that. You'll save a LOT of money... labor prices are gougetastic.

I'm going to piggyback on this topic since it's closely related to something I've been meaning to ask.

I'm building my own compy right now, looking at a lot of mobos/processors/etc, what major things do I need to look out for that a lot of people may screw up when picking their motherboard? I've already considered case size/compatible processors, but feel like I'm forgetting something.

Video card agp or pci, what memory your getting FSB ratings, what fsb your board is, if your getting a sataI or sataII board or IDE or scsi etc etc...

all soorta depends on if your "upgrading" or getting a compleatly new thing.

Like I got a board with agp 8X and PCI 16X because I currently have an agp card... and plan to go to PCI sometime. Also my current board has IDE 133 and supports SATAII... so I'm slowly moving to all sataII at moment slowly since I got like 1TB+ of random stuff

The compy it's replacing is a 5 year old mid-range dell with a number of malfunctioning parts (over the years). Intention is to get PCIEx16GPU when I switch over, and basically fully building from scratch. I intend for no parts to be transferred over except the hard drive (And even that I may just dump.)

What is the difference between SATAI and SATAII, and how does FSB of the mobo compare with the FSB of the memory? Is it 1:1 or something different where 667MHz memory won't be bottlenecking a 1066MHz mobo? Looking to try not going all in on one part to get bottlenecked by the other.

I thought MoBo doesn't have a bus speed?
or even they have, it doesn't even count as bottle neck, does it?

I kinda confused with my PC too... almost 4 yrs old now.. wanna grab a new one, but my x800pro (AGP) is still new. I never really expected a very quick acceptance from AGP to PCI-E.

Oh well, I guess it's better to see how Vista does in its first few months (as well as DX10)

    They do, and it would.

Put simply, your computer is only as fast as it's slowest component.

buying a game to run vanguard is a waste since the game wastes system resources like no tomorrow.
