I'm surprised at what some people try to use waviers for. I was once going to go bungie jumping and they asked me to sign a waiver in case the rope broke....ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

I highly doubt that wavier will hold up in court.

Well the show was spun off as "Hold your Wee for a Wii". Good idea for a contest, but they made the people drink way too much water.

Waiver won't hold up in court.

Yeah I know, I used to love Atom and Maria, I had just gotten into listening to them in the morning, when they dissapeared and now we have Roula and Ryan. They aren't bad, and sometimes the show is hilarious, but it's just not the same =(

An by "off the air indefinitely", he means that the people from that morning show were shuffled off to another Clear Channel owned radio station in another city...

    lol

The station is being really careful about everything. Check out their website:
    http://www.endonline.com

Every single reference to the morning show (called the Morning Rave) through ads or media has been removed from their website, even the Bios of the deejays. Even the normal homepage of the radio station has been replaced with a white HTML page with the exact announcement they made on the radio this morning, word for word. Local news has said that employees showed for work, but we won't be hearing from any of the morning deejays any time soon.

This is all kind of sad because I was a big fan of the show too.

Is there any radio station that Clear Channel doesn't own?

I read that their waiver was their standard waiver regarding promo's and stuff but had no mention of safety. The station is fucked.

Even worse was that a nurse called in to warn them of the danger but the DJ blew her off.

While trying to find the article about the waiver and nurse, I found that they fired 10 ppl today: http://www.sacbee.com/102/story/108566.html

    Found it:
    http://www.montereyherald.com/mld/mo...eyherald_state

Gina Sherrod, who competed with Strange in the contest, said her family listened to the radio show, and told her that a nurse was on air warning that drinking too much water is dangerous. Sherrod said a DJ rebuffed the nurse, saying the contestants signed waivers that addressed only publicity issues and made no mention of health or safety concerns.

This reminded me of a sad death of a 16 year old girl on her birthday, here in Colorado. Her friends bought her a pill of ecstasy for her birthday, and as anyone who has used this drug knows - it makes you thirsty. Like any good friends would have done, whenever the girl asked for more water they gave it to her - to the tune of almost 2 gallons. This wiped out a large portion of the sodium in her body, which in turn caused her brain and other organs to swell.

I remember the incident well, because the media immediately latched onto the drug angle, and the local police charged both the dealer and the friend that bought the pill. I always felt that it wasn't necessarily the fault of either of those guys, but of the dumb friends that kept giving the girl water all night.

Oh man.. ignorance won't get them out of the situation but it goes a long way when dealing with damages.

I didn't know water was dangerous and I imagine most people don't either, but when a nurse calls in and they make fun of her.. not only did they know the risks they still went through with the promotion.

They are all fucked so hard now. The people and station involved might as well collect everything they own and just give it all to this lady's family now and pray they take mercy and don't gouge all potential future earnings these people will make for the rest of their lives.

I know there has to be recorded audio of that nurses call somewhere out there, keep an eye out for it and post a link if you see it because depending on exactly how it went it could be solid evidence to send a few people to prison over this.

KDND is owned by Entercom. It's kind of a shame ... watching Clear Channel get sued in to oblivion would make me happy (even though they could afford it).

I remember hearing about water intoxication back in high school during cross country. I never really looked it up though. The contest probably would have worked better with Gatoraide or Powerade though... plus they could have had more sponsorship or whatnot...

Still, it's a bummer that someone died over it.

    Small update:
    http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/109112.html

This article outlines the entire event, and provides a link to a series of audio slides of the goings-on during the contest, including when the nurse called in during the contest and warned the DJs about water intoxication.

    Yea, they're basically fucked.

I am reminded of the Great Depression when people would do outrageous stunts (going over Niagara Falls in a barrel) for money and such... Sad that people are becoming so desperate again that they end up dying...

Homicide detectives now investigating the case, in response to the audio recording of the contest:

All five of the radio personalities were fired, effectively ending their careers even if they aren't charged with manslaughter.
