Trouble skilling Shield

Ok, so my PLD is level 56 atm, and I realized that my shield skill has somehow become gimped about 10 levels. I wanna get it back to cap, but I don't really know any tricks to get it that high unless I'm in an exp party.

IIRC, it's at 169 now, and should be around 180ish. Can anyone help me out?

I have a few tips and tricks, but they're mostly RDM-based and require large amounts of blunt damage mitigation (Stoneskin, Phalanx, -physical dmg gear). I subbed BLU for Cocoon for extra defense. I also did this at lvl 75. If you can adapt the methods for PLD use at your level, then go for it.

First, use Mandies. They hit frequently and for so little that they don't pose a serious threat. For your skill level, the Mouriouches and Korrigans in Boyahda Tree would be good. Ideally, Phalanx and Cocoon will bring individual hits to 0, so that you won't get interrupted if you do need to cast spells.

If you can handle 1 Mandy, grab some more. You can ideally get an arc of them to quickly level shield and parrying.

Like I said, this was what I did at 75 RDM, so it might not be as feasible for a 56 PLD. Maybe grab a lolSpartan Hoplon for enchantment Phalanx? /shrug. Good luck.

if u happen to get in a noob pt, just throw on a buckler and they'll probably never notice. that or grab a rdm friend to help u skill it up real quick in the tree.

also, if ur wearing af1 feet and buckler earring, ur further off than u think. i started getting off cap by .5 to 1.0 each lvl in that range bc it wouldnt skill fast enough. try taking the feet and earring off if ur not at least halfway to cap when u hit halfway through the lvl. yes, this gimps u but if u have a rdm and whm in ur pt, it shouldnt matter much at all w/ the stronger regen and 5-7mp/tick.

unequip gear? more skill = more procs = more chance to skill.

you can do coffer/genkai pts on pld to get a few lvls, mandies in boyahda are close to exp lv so you'd have to do them in a trio~ if you wanted to skill on them as pld, skilling on another job - War C, Whm D, Bst E, RDM E, THF E is okay if you have one at 75 (preferably War or Whm).

personally i wouldn't bother, it'll cap sometime after you get 75^^; shield torque and m.head will also help (hopefully you have buckler earring too).

I did take af feet and buckler earring into consideration. With those on, my skill is at 182, I believe. So just to clear that up, my "base" skill is 169.

I'm not one of those people that are completely anal about my skill level. I'm just not sure how much that 10 level gap is effecting my performance. I was getting raped Lesser Colibris last night in an exp party, but I dunno if that was due to not using food or my uncapped shield. Oh well, I might try out those mandies in the Tree for a little bump.

Just use a size1 shield and dont worry about it. After the shieldblock>not interupt if anyone says anything say you suck at casting cure on yourself.

for you i would recomend gathering 3-4 mandies either in yhotar and fight them near a zone, when ur about to die, then zone.

I used Chigoe to get like 80 levels on my Shield skill (and like 5 on Parrying -_-). Protect IV + Phalanx + Stoneskin + Aquaveil (those buggers can really screw you up if you aren't careful) + Blaze Spikes (hey, minor EXP is still EXP, they practically kill themselves). Also stack on as much VIT gear as possible (Ogre Jerkin, Bibiki Seashell, Warwolf Belt, VIT rings are all fairly cheap and excellent choices).
