Montblanc was your guild leader in Final Fantasy: Tactics Advance, as he was in Final Fantasy 12. It's the same world, and most likely runs along a very close timeline considering Montblanc is still alive. Though I hated FF:TA so much that I just stopped playing and I don't know if anything else coincides besides the Viera/Bangaa races and Judges.

I think we can make a distinction between the Ivalice of FFT and that of FFT:A and FFXII. FFT had no moogles or bangaas or seeqs or judges. So why throw Balthier into the FFT redux? Probably the same reason they threw Cloud into the original; to attract players to the game from the recent mega success in the main franchise.

it could be like how cloud entered FFT (in ff7, when cloud got high off lifestream, he had a coma; in FFT, cloud entered the alternate reality world [ivalice] during this time, and eventually when you completed the sidequest, cloud returned to his place [which = not in coma anymore, he goes back to shinra shit] )

maybe bal gets into some time traveling shit, since FFT era takes place years years after (or was it before?) ff12 lol

Am I missing something here? I thought Tactics (PS1) and Tactics Advance (GBA) had nothing to do with eachother, story/setting-wise. Was Tactics (PS1) set in Ivalice as well? I just am positive that FFXII and FF:TA are tied close together by races/people/locations.

My understanding of the PSP FFT is that it's nothing more than a port of the original with anime cutscenes as opposed to in-game engine ones (boo, I liked the original in-game cs). And with Balthier now, I suppose.

According to the Magick Pot bestiary entry, FFXII takes place 2000 years after Saint Ajora's life. FFT takes place 1200 years after Saint Ajora's life. Thus, FFXII takes place eight hundred years after the Lion War.

The bestiary he refers to is the one in FFXII, for anyone confused.

Odd, because in FFT there's a graveyard of airships, but no airships, when FFXII has them (though they use some sort of advanced technology not present in FFT's time period, I suppose).

About the relationship between FFT and FFT:A, the relationship is a very flimsy one.

In the begining, when they have the book, they talk about how cool life would be like if it was like the Final Fantasy game they were playing earlier(Or played before...something like that). I think they just created the world based off playing FFT, hence the jobs, gameplay, and the same World.

Take Wiki info with a grain of salt, some of the data is inconclusive at best.

I think the FFT and FF12 connecting were already explained, but as for FFT:A, I think the main way it was connected was through the main characters playing FFT, then when Mewt came to posess the book (which is actually rumored to be a powerful relic of the FFT era, and has something to do with the judges and laws, but I don't know much about that), he wished for a world based off Final Fantasy, and so the book made his wish come true.

As for Balthier in the new FFT, I wouldn't be surprised if they just made him a reward from a special mission, like Cloud, the robot guy, Beowulf, Byblos and Reis.
