I've always been a fan of Final Fantasy IV, it being the first FF I played. I loved the story in the game and the conflict between Ceceil and Kain, the latter's character appealing to me. Around 97 or so when I got a PC and the internet, I went by the name of Kain in anything I did.

Around 2000 or so I ended up "enhancing" the name by adding a last name, since I always got asked "r u named from that dragoon in FF2??" I may have used the name but I in no way really portrayed myself as "I AM TEH DRAGOON" or something. I just liked the name is all. So I threw in Stryder at the end, I don't know why I picked that name and no, I didn't get it from the Capcom game. Later on down the road, through some late night boredom I was analyzing the name like breaking it down into what both words mean.

Kain or Cain or Kane or what have you means "root of evil", (or sugar!) such as the Cain from the bible.

Stryder or Strider or Stride means "to walk" or "to travel".

Hence we get "root of evil that walks" or "evil that spreads".

I don't know, I like how the name sounds and I've stuck with it ever since. Funny thing is, I'm mostly called Kain, I think out of my entire time on FFXI only 4 people tops have called my Stryder instead >_>

Jenica - I decided that I'd play a mithra, since if I had to stare at a digital ass all the time, I'd rather it be a nice one. (The tail is hypnotic.) I asked my then-girlfriend for a female name. I had been playing a roleplaying MUD for a while, and before FFXI US PC launch, I was planning on being in a roleplaying linkshell. It just wouldn't be right to have a mithra named "Tirrock" in my mind.

Nobody hit on me during beta (under the name Tirrock), so I figured that I'd be fine with a female name on a female character. I don't know what I was thinking.

Oddly enough, I worked with a girl named Jenica for a week before I quit (door to door vacuum salesman...they lied so much when they hired me).

I found out last year that Jenica is the name of an NPC in FFV. I was being hippocritical when complaining about Final Fantasy related names on FFXI. Oops!

Tirrock - The result of a conversation with friends when I was a kid. Something about curing a rock. I made a character named Kirrock on a MUD, he "died" because I didn't log him on for a few months. Being my unoriginal self, I made a new character, changed the "K" to a "T", and said they were brothers.
