2 Spectacles in a Row. Breaking Morale(?), Assault level 2, Mamool Ja Staging Point.
On another note, I didn't appraise them until a few hours after my assault party. Had the "You cannot obtain Specs..." Message (Rare). Hah.
And you got them again when you reappraised? I always figured it was random on-the-spot type dealy.Originally Posted by Stelaereous
If thats the case, then there should be some way to tell what you have without appraising it.
Not really. Every object in the world has an id. probably a 32 bit number (0 to 4,294,967,295). When the item is obtained, the server assigns it an Item ID that nothing else in the world has. Say it gets Item ID 150. Then server updates a record somewhere to say "Whenever Item ID 150 is appraised, it will become a pair of Spectaclse." but obviously doesn't tell you that, it just gives you Item 150. As soon as you appraise it, it looks up the record and says oh that's a pair of spectacles. This has the properties that:Originally Posted by Celeras

2) Even if you did find out what it is, you could not change it without hacking the server.
3) It will always be the same even if you try it with your inventory full 100 times.
Are you sure this wasn't Preemptive Strike? Breaking Morale is a Lv. 4 Assault, and is not reported to drop Specs. Preemptive Strike is the Lv. 2 one, and does drop Specs. Preemptiev Strike is the one where you just go around and kill all the Mamool you see. That sound like more or less what you did?Originally Posted by Stelaereous
I think it's still interesting to confirm that the appraised item is decided at the time you obtain the ??? item and not at the time of appraisal. The problem with testing this lies in the fact that once you trade the ??? to the appraiser you become 59/60 instead of 60/60. If you are solo when you trade 60/60 does the item still enter your inventory, or does it enter a treasure pool, or do you get the 'unable to obtain' message?
It would be interesting if someone gets the 'unable to obtain' message again due to the above conditions or due to a case like the spectacles one, try trading like 10 times or so just to make sure, then trade 10 times each to the two other appraisal NPCs to determine if the zone you appraise in has any effect on the item appraised.
