is there any correlation with how successful your assault run is to what prize you get?

we were doin defuse the threat, and maybe get like 50%+ of bombs defused, both ??? neck items were crap

if that is the case.. then it'd be more likely that the ??? items are predetermined at the time of obtaining them and not when its appraised correct?

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but I personally have a belief that if you give the appraisal NPC over 50 gil, you have a higher chance of recieving a better item. I was trying to help a friend get a storm loop, and we got about ~15 ??? earrings, each I appraised with 50 gold. I said to myself the next try 'hmm why don't I try more then 50' and I traded him 500 gil; got it. Might've just been really good luck, but I dunno. Was a few months ago too. It was the appraisal guy in Whitegate, iirc.

Yeah, if you just talk to him he says to give him 50 gil and the item and he'll appraise it or whatever. I gave him 500 instead though. Which also kinda makes me wonder, why the hell would they let people trade more than he needs >_>

They don't. I used to think that maybe if you traded more gil, there was a better chance of getting a good item. I would trade 10k, 20k, etc, and each time it would only take the required amount.
