For the record, the marids there do link (unlike marids in other areas, ussually only grand marids link). On our 2nd run to save time we tried to pull the farthest two first and ended up with 5 marids attacking us. Lost by about 10 seconds thanks to mutliple deaths.

If it's not subjob or HP, I would think it's something along the lines of having some sort of Job Ability active or something, but I have nothing to base that on except "hunch". (Though my hunches have been remarkably accurate lately.) Try Defender.
