I was under the impression you were tracking the rate of rare/ex from ??? not-box.Originally Posted by divisortheory
Both. If all I track is the rate of rare/ex from ??? equip, it doesn't answer the question "If I do this assault right now, what are the chances i'll get a rare/ex", because you have to know what the chances are you'll even get a ??? equip in the first place.

Just out of curiosity, how many individual ??? items of a particular type are in the .dats?
When you get a ??? Ring that turns out to be a Divisor Ring, how did that happen?
A) The ??? Ring you got from the chest was really a ??? Ring[3] out of ??? Ring[1 through 6], and the .dat file shows 6 ??? Rings, but all with the same description/name/etc. The particular one you got is pre-ordained to become a Divisor Ring, whereas ??? Ring[2] is going to be a Storm Ring, and ??? Ring[5] a Brass Ring+1 and ??? Ring[6] a Beetle Ring+1.
B) The ??? Ring you got from the chest is the same as any other ??? Ring you get from any other chest, only there is a hidden flag set to indicate that it will become a Divisor Ring. The hidden flag might be something similar to how enchanted items keep their info when trading between players.
C) The ??? Ring you got from the chest was really a ??? Ring[3], just like in scenario A. Unlike scenario A, Azure Experiments always gives you ??? Ring[3] and no other (when it decides to drop one), and is not pre-ordained to become anything. When you trade it in, the Appraiser decides at that time what it will become. ??? Ring[3], in particular, has a 45% chance to become a Brass Ring+1, a 45% chance to become a Beetle Ring+1, and a 10% chance to become a Divisor Ring. Whereas a ??? Ring[2] from some other Assault (which always gives ??? Ring[2] and no other) has a 45% chance to become a Copper Ring+1, a 45% chance to become a Brass Ring+1, and a 10% chance to become a Storm Ring.
D) Take Scenario B and assume the hidden flag merely indicates that the ??? Ring came from Azure Experiments, and therefore (like in Scenario C) the Appraiser determines what it becomes based on a chance table for ??? Rings that come from Azure Experiments (and he knows where it came from due to the hidden flag).
leujaoam, counting sheep, 2x ??? dagger, spark dagger + hushed dagger
Type is probably determined when you get the item, just in a server-side-only data section.Originally Posted by Khamsin

I'd guess case D is most likely from a programing perspective (my knowledge of programming is very elmentary tho). Damn Aurik beat me too it.
This structure would be smart in the sence that there is no possible way to pre-determine what a ??? item will become before apraisal, thus eliminating the possibility of a hacker exploiting ??? items (appraise the good stuff, sell the crap in your bazaar for 10k each to rich/dumb gamblers).
