Vista in your machine? (Up:30 Jan 2007)

Actually there's a few games being developed atm which either require or support DX10. One being the 1st MMO to support it: Age of Conan. They just showed a version of the game which supports DX10 at CES, and apparently it looks a hell of a lot nicer than the DX9 version (which looks pretty kick ass already, I've seen game play movies of the DX9 version.) One of the other games is Crysis by Crytek (the guys who brought us Far Cry, which was a great game that looked absolutely fantastic.) It's shaping up to be the poster-child for why gamers should get a DX10 box when they're ready. (Screenshot below.)

There's plenty of perks that DX10 exposes that will make games that support it substantially better, at least graphics-wise, than games that are DX9 based. I expect many games will support both DX9 and DX10.

Reminds me of when Windows 2000 was released. My card gained DirectX functionality (moving from NT 4), and for some reason lost OpenGL. Which worked perfectly well under NT.
Not that ATI was any good at supporting the card themselves anyway. By the time solid, nicely performing drivers were released for it...it was obsolete.

quick conclusion : If you really concentrate on digital audio, especially video encoding. Then Vista can perform better. Otherwise, stay XP

Yes, ofcourse XP is going to preform better with software made for XP. I read that article yesterday, and for the time being I agree. If you rely heavily on older software, stick with XP untill the new versions are released or get updates that take advantage of Vista.

As of now, Im happy with my XP pro...but when Crysis comes. I guess I'll have to use crappy vista, and install another 2gigs of ram... then I can see my 8800GTX is SLi finally be stressed some-what.
