You guys all realize that there has been ...basically the exact same rules concerning movies as Hilary is attempting to - not implement, but increase enforcement on.

You can't see an R or NC-17 rated movie without an adult until you're 17. You can't buy a M or AO rated game without an adult until you're 17.

It isn't illegal to see a R movie when you are 16 nor is it illegal for a movie theater to sell you a ticket. There are no laws in the federal books and if there is some specific state out there with a law about this I haven't heard of it.

Besides I think there are more important problems in America than video games. I read an article somewhere that the National debt's interest rates are eating something like 15% of all tax dollars raised in the US, and whats scary is that it is increasing by $2billion dollars a day. How long before this becomes such a huge amount that things such as Health care, Schools, infrastructure have to be cut back because the government cannot afford to pay for the debt and keep those programs alive.

The government needs to cut back on all of that, thats why we have such a horrid national debt problem. We need to stop throwing money at things, and actually try and fix them.

Sadly I doubt it is going to happen.

I could get into "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" or "distribution of pornography" but I won't. (edit: maybe I will) Most movie theaters abide by these rules voluntarily. Many video game stores do not abide by the ESRB ratings voluntarily. Because movie theaters abide by the recommendations, legistators feel that no further action is necessary. Because video game stores do not, legislators feel further action is necessary. Selling GTA: SA to a 12 year old is, as far as I'm concerned, "contributing to the delinquency of minors". I...don't really see how anyone could say that it isn't? Doing so is illegal, and if video game stores do not voluntarily stop doing such illegal actions, legislators will come down on them harder. Don't blame Hilary Clinton, blame your local retailer.

Why aren't you raging against the theater chains for not allowing 12 year olds to watch R-rated movies, if you're so convinced that it's their right to see such material?

One more thing. I'll respond if someone can give me one *GOOD* specific reason/example of why video games should NOT have a stringent ratings system, at least as extensive as that of movies. In other words, who is benefitted by video games not being controlled, and how? (Other than the industry making money lol)

Simple. Because the theater chains choose to do that.

Laws should only be passed for stuff that is absolutely necessary. The federal government should only pass laws in situations the states can't enforce on their own (like interstate business).

Where I live we do have a law that makes it illegal for a retailer to sell M rated games to minors. If a store is caught selling them they are first fined then they lose the ability to sell M rated games for a period of time.
