I'd imagine with the fact Asuran is an 8-hitter, extra ATK would be better than anything else.

Well, like I mentioned before, I parsed slightly higher with Togi + Pallas when I was tweaking my gear, so I have not bothered trying to test it all again, works for me, maybe not for everyone else; I still do get plenty of people examine me during exp parties since they see the numbers I put up and are surprised (being taru always has people thinking I can't outparse them...)

I'm a 47 PLD. I'm pre-ToAU areas and pre-Parade Gorget.

I'm also a 40 BRD.

I'll tell you right now, as a PLD, I don't want to party with BRDs anyway. Even post-55. I don't mind getting into the right position. My problem is two-fold: 1) the other melee can't get into the right position, and 2) the BRDs can't seem to hit me anyway.

Heck, I had a BRD in my party the other day that melee'd. He'd drop Ballad on the mages, Minuet on the melee, and whip out his sword. No Madrigal. He'd do dispel when the mob buffed. That was it. No second song on mages, nothing. He blew.

But that's beside the point. BRDs require too much intelligence on the part of the party as a whole. That's a problem because most pick-up parties don't have that much intelligence. Throw a PLD into the mix and it's downright hell. So ... speaking as a PLD tank ... I think I might put in my search comment: BRD = nothanks.

Oh, and I'll agree: PLD + THF + BRD is just plain retarded.

On the other hand: post-50, PLDs cause almost no downtime with just a simple refresh.

All PLD parties should start: PLD + WHM + RDM ... then some smart job choices for DD.

Plan to read more of the thread when I get the chance, but it's not necessary for brds to be as snobbish as I've seen them be (not that all brds are). As far as leveling, I'm currently 63brd, and haven't really had a problem with pld or nin tanks. If the pld wanted Ballad, he'd line up for it. Otherwise he'd get melee songs.

Just being brd allows better control of exp/hr, at least compared to being THF in merit parties. I do understand that lack of time pushes people to want maximum efficiency though...

Pre 55, what other mage song did you want your bard to drop anyways? Etudes? Not saying your bard was good but that doesn't seem to be a very valid point. As long as I get fifteen tells every time I log on as a bard for a crappy merit party, I probably will be the "princess bard" that will keep declining. As someone who is pretty burnt on bard and never ever takes up pickup anymore, the best part of being a (princess) bard is your angry bitter search comments like the one I had yesterday.

Actually, I was talking about the rest of the party besides the BRD. As in moving to the right place to make sure you got the right songs. Granted, this party I was just talking about, that BRD was just plain dumb too.

As for the Pre 55 comment, I was listing *all* the songs he sang. I figured I'd be complete. If you notice, there is no requiem, no madrigal, nothing. So it was a valid point only in that I was giving a total listing of all songs played. If makes my comment sound more pleasant to you, we can change the word mages to melee when I talk about the second song. The BRD still sucked. He'd play 3 total songs.

And ... yeah, some parties may be lame enough to still want the uber BRD even if he refuses to play anything but Madrigal, but I'd sure a heck boot him.

That said, I can understand BRDs being "princesses." My point is that when I'm PLD, I'll take a BRD if I have to. I just prefer to have a RDM.

Haha. At one point a few weeks ago, every time I xp'd over the course of a few evenings I'd get a /tell from this one guy asking me to join his party. Every single night, when I was already in other parties and had been getting xp at camp for like an hour. I guess his search filter was broken or something.

Wonder if doing 2xmadrigal + minuet4/march2 would be "better" at that Colibri camp. Something to play around with I guess, I always feel march1 is very meh (provided melee are near gear cap and have haste spell) and minuet3 is borderline depending on how the party is setup.

Memory is a bit vague, but I remember someone doing a comparative accuracy test to determine the exact bonus for madrigals, and madrigal1 was ~20 and madrigal2 was about ~25.

edit: nevermind, wiki lists madrigal1 cap at 15 and madrigal2 as +28.
