Help with External HDD

Ok, I have the 40GB HDD for the PS2 (came pre-installed with FFXI)

I haven't used it in almost 4 months, and I have now tried making it into an external hdd for my 60GB PS3.

I bought this: (as the HDD case)

The problem is, I tried to format the HDD (create a new partition thru disk management) but the HDD never shows up in the log, it keeps saying Unallocated. Do I need a program? like notion partion magic? or do any of you (Smart BG tech Experts) have a faster/easier solution, or am I shit out of luck.

Does it show up with a drive letter at least?

Use this. It detects PS2 format HDDs, then you get several options to mess around with it.
Worked well enough for me when my PS2 HDD decided to just stop showing up in the browser menu on the PS2.
