To help answer why people generally don't bother with "sort by DPS" on somepage, let's see what the best weapons possible for warrior are.Originally Posted by dietvanillapepsi

How very educational! Even restricted it to just axes is pretty silly, although I guess harder to tell if you're not a warrior.
DPS is just another tool to keep in mind when selecting weapons. It's not "the rule of god" or anything, but if you're going to attack it as totally worthless, do so when it's not providing basically the truth about bows.Originally Posted by Bagel
When someone says "by DPS, it's Ebow, MC bow, then Selene or Imperial, then Gendawa+1"...well they're pretty much right regarding their overall useage as well.
Ok, here's a RNG example. It's almost completely useless and innacurate.
not to mention ranged delay is always higher than 60 delay/second
It is just one tool and bit of info out of many. I still think DPS is a good tool for determining the best DoT on regular attacks (all other things being equal) It definitely should not be your only tool but I think it should be considered when making your decision.Originally Posted by Bagel
For instance, after looking at the crossbow list, I am still curious about the machine crossbow for solo'ing purposes. I would like to be able to fire bloody bolts about 3 times faster than when using an Obow. The next time I want to solo something on rng (which is usually when im farming certain mobs using wide scan) then I will try it. I would still like to read other people's testimonies on the machine crossbow.
DPS is a tool to consider the strenght of a weapon. It's just one of the things you look at. From the marksmanship list, you can see that Obow ranks pretty high on DPS- then you look closer and see that it still maintains high weapon damage for WS (which are not time dependent) and useful stat bonuses. Ranged weapons are of course misleading though because they do not include ammo, which is why HF+1 is so low (but I happen to think its kinda trashy anyway lolz).
So check the DPS, then check the dmg and check bonuses. Works for pretty much every job![]()
totally forgot to respond to this thread. i use ethereal/brutal for melee and suppa/vision for WS (because i dont feel like buying triumphs atm). suppa/vision for hnm.
Pre-Nerf when i lvld Ranger (pre capped STR/Crit/Archery on RDM) i used the run-of-the-mill +1 bows/xbows and MCB http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/2437. I was from windurst too, so the ACC was a nice little bonus. I regularly owned a lot of the rangers i partied with, but E-Bow was better in DPS; id imagine G+1 is worse than MCB based on its visible stats(i never even considered it).
Now on RNG, i TP with Ridill/Kraken and a full Melee/ACC/Haste Gearset. And full STR/Racc/Ratk set for my WS^_^. Owned ridill-wars at the colibri camp while tanking and eating sushi almost every fight lol.
edit add: i only use this setup in hardcore parties, usually ill play warrior lol.
Or you could just sort by DMG, then pick which one you like best from the top of the list based on delay/bonusses. Since "DPS" is just DMG pitted against Delay, it comes down to the exact same thing.Originally Posted by Beckwin
Besides, if you have the gear to back it up, a fast weapon with only 9 DPS and no further stats can trumph a slow weapon with 10 DPS simply 'cause the effects of your STR/gear on the per-hit damage, and more hits = more effect (which is why Eurytos with post-70 STR/RAtk gear rocks everything else).
The DPS stat is virtually useless 'cause it holds no relevance to the game mechanics - in fact, it will often lead people to pick the wrong weapon. The only time you can safely go by the DPS stat to decide which is best is if you compare weapons with the same delay and stat boosts ... in which case you're just comparing the DMG anyhow.
Is the Ridill DoT significant enough to make up for slowing down Kraken? Or is getting faster TP insignificant 'cause you have to hold back anyhow. Now on RNG, i TP with Ridill/Kraken and a full Melee/ACC/Haste Gearset.
that's what i was going to ask. hasted/marched with KC i get TP fast enough to self-sc now and then, i don't see that being possible if you DW it with anything. if you haven't tried it alone, do it.. i think you'll parse higher.
Hey Matricide and other KC rngs:
Have you tried using ebow in a KC setup? It's just been something I've been curious about since the update. I don't notice a significant loss in damage when I have to WS a mob from point-blank with my bow in xp, but I can maybe see how HF+1 outperforms in a lower ratk setup (sushi for teh club).
Matricide, how often you can do self SC using your setup now?
i honestly only recently got ebow back (was part of my soul that i sold for kc) so i haven't parsed with it or gotten to compare numbers, but if i do anytime soon ill be sure to post. and as for the self-sc thing, i'd say maybe 1-2 times in a merit party, its mostly timing/luck.. happened when i was first playing with it and it blew me away.

That's moderately sexy Mat, nice sig upgrade btw
Edit : I see no "Burginator examines you." in your SS, I call Photoshopped.
Ooh ooh look what the highest DPS non-relic weapon is!Originally Posted by Bagel
