I was originally planning MNK/THF because I wanted to be a bit more on the side of "good" and I thought Monks were religion oriented and so would be closer to that. I liked the evasion and quickness that Monk seemed to have. Then I just stuck with my THF, lol.
My brother started a month before me, so I chose to be a WHM to heal his nuke happy BLM. WHM ended up being my third job to reach level 75 >.>
We ended up stopping at 61 because exp was so slow. With enough funding from these "high" level jobs, we went RNG to 75
My favorite job overall is RDM though. Turns out RDM is what I wanted from the very beginning, but I was thrown off by the "jack of all trades" and melee ability advertised in the strategy guide.![]()
Started out, looked at the little guide they give you. Saw Dragoon, and Dark Knight. Also i noticed WAR, and i was like, that looks so boring, what a stupid job. Glanced over PLD and RDM too, and they looked horrid to play and not fun. lol Was a hard choice, went with Dragoon. Got WAR sub to 30 with sword/shield, then got DRG unlocked. Leveled pretty decently on DRG to 51, and it locked. Couldnt get an invite to save my life for over a month.
Then one day in Port Jeuno i saw a NIN in full AF1, same exact character model as me.......and i was like wow....that looks so bad ass. So i started leveling NIN off and on, and still leveled DRG when i could. DRG got to 67 bout the time my NIN was like 60, and NIN to 60 in like 1/3 of the time. Had to level my WAR sub to 37 and I hated it, got it 37, left party immediately and never wanted to touch it again. Well i had a friend from like the beginning of the game that got into a HNM LS, and i wanted in. Well no way a DRG was getting in, so i got NIN 1-75 in like 3 months or something. Got in, and still in that LS, and my DRG 2 years later, now is still 67. =P Now that ugly, boring WAR is 75 and RDM lol.
decided to play around with red mage when I started, sortof like it but my friends were all red mages too (a full pt of RDM cant kill very well) so they said, Sono, level WHM, itll help. Got that to 20, hated it, wanted to quit. Walked away for like 3 months, came back with my friend because we wanted to give it a go. I started monk, he started WHM. We got to 10 together and I wasnt feeling it, left for about a week. My friend continued and eventually got WHM 27 (he was soooo insanely powerful man wow).
Wanted to give it another shot and couldnt decide which job to play. My friend Deadhead said that I couldnt play mages because I was a mithra, only tarus could be mages. I couldnt be a warrior because elvaans and galkas were better warriors. Couldnt be a paladin because galkas and humes were the best. He said as a mithra the only jobs I could do well would be thief and maybe ranger, but he didnt know, nobody played ranger. I decided to play ranger because he told me that the JPs would never accept me if I wasnt the right race for my job.
Leveled warrior to 31, meeting my good friends Nikkei and Beecher in kazham, they joined my linkshell, later nikkei left for this upstart one called blue garter, beecher and I were convinced it would fail. Beecher stayed for a bit then sortof didnt play for a while. Leveled ranger to 75 on the heels of the bandwagon. I was 40ish when everyone and their mother decided it was the greatest job ever.
Cue 75 on RNG, joined an HNM after getting lots of dynamis clears and little reward with friendlyfire. Leveled warrior to 75 with my bestest kitty friend Michaera. Decided I needed to join BG, quit my current HNM, applied and kept working. I may be a warrior most of the time, but my job is ranger till I die.
Red mage is 41 and going to leech it to 70 because I think I want a maats cap.
i saw a drg and thought it would be so cool to have a pet drg so i wanted to start as drg. then i heard about penta spam and wanted to be drg even more. started as a thf though and ended up taking thf and rng to 75 my drg is lvl 5.
I was Paladin all the way![]()
Was gonna be Blm...then I thought Nin..then Drk. Got Blm to 32, then did Nin to like 20, then Drk to 50something before finishing off Blm and Nin to SJ lvl.
Drk75 and Nin45 now, Rdm up and coming at 65 too >_>a
Originally, I didn't know what I wanted to play. So I picked a little bit of everything (RDM). Part melee, part cure magic, part black magic. Seemed perfect for someone who didn't know what they wanted. Then i started seeing lots of elemental magic resists in Qufim ( i dont remember why I just remember them ) and I started to get frustated with the job. I remember Phalanx being godly expensive at the time (like 150k back then which I remember being pretty damn expensive for then.) I also remember struggling to find the 80k to get dispel from the NPC in Rabao.
I remember in the jungle (kazham) the melee side of red mage becoming non existant during these levels, Much like elemental magic failing, I started to get frustrated with the job but nevertheless I pressed on.
Then of course, from 33-40 or so the only thing I remember was how much I wanted to get the spell refresh. I remember dinging up in The Eldime Necropolis to 41 when ninja tanks were still being experimented with. Or maybe it was just the first time I saw one past :ni levels. I just remember the entire party commenting on how awesome NIN tanks were. I didn't even have the scroll of refresh on me when i dinged up to 41 of course.
I already did 41 levels and I remember learning about how to do keep Refresh on every member and I remember saying "PLDs don't need it all of the time they are just like DRKs." I learned pretty quick, I'd say around level 45 I had a pretty good hang of who needed what and what not.
The invites were pretty good, and eventually I made my way to 50ish and I remember asking some people if I should buy haste vs some other spell (i dont remember which it was). My reasoning was that haste would help me farm quicker so it wasn't really needed just sorta nice.
I remember shouting for hours and hours trying to get AFs and Genkai quests done. I remember doing G2 with a full alliance of level 50-55s with like one 75BRD. I remember struggling to find a treasure box for the AF body in oztraja because of all of the THFs picking astral rings. I ended up camping behind the password drop door on the top floor until a chest popped behind it. I remember how proud I was to get the AF hat as well LOL oh man.
I remember struggling to level RDM because there were literally between 12-15 RDMs(i have a screenshot somewhere) that were in my level range at any given time (usually 2-3 of them seeking) so I often opted to build my own parties.
Although I started to get burned out on RDM, I didn't really enjoy the job anymore, but nevertheless I pushed on just to get my first 75. I remember the obstacals such as *having* to get the ZMs done because it was pretty much expected to have them by 72+ to even level up anymore. I remember exping on school nights soooo late in Ro'Moave with JPs and this one NIN really impressed the hell out of me as he kept running away from Smite of Rage. I was so impressed with him at the time haha. I still get this nostolgic feeling everytime I go through Ro'moave
I remember everyone telling us that you *absolutely* need a PLD75 with full adaman gear to tank ZM8. I forget why they said this, I think because of some hate reset move and that the +enmity on adaman was *needed.* It's so funny thinking about it now, but hey I just used what people told me.
Me and a friend ended up doing ZM5-12 all in 1 day. It was so funny back then we thought it was crazy to accomplish such a feat.
Well to make a long story short. Finally dinged up to 75 on deco weapons I believe, and then started to really refine how I played the job and become really efficient at it. I remember setting up RNGx4 BRD RDM parties and they were by far the most fun I had in the game even to this day I think as far as EXP parties go. Also dipped into MNK parties before they became super common in KRT and that was definitely a new style to play RDM since I had to really work with the WHM to make sure we coordinated well. Chain 25 was incredible back in those days.
Well anyways, it was a fun experience in retrospect, and I enjoy the job a lot more today and what it has become in exp, and for soloing than I did back then.
Long story short, I didn't know what I wanted to be, so I picked RDM, finished that to 75, leveled BLM to 60, got reallllly bored with that, and then leveled NIN as the first 'real' job that I fully enjoyed every minute of leveling it. Got NIN to 75 and then finished BLM to 75 out of sheer principle of not wanting to leave a job at 60.
If i were to do it all over again, I would do RDM to 75, get merits/gear for NIN and level NIN to 75
wtf D: why are we on different servers you bastard? Even our stories are exactly the same...Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus

Took war up to 30 sword/polearm/greatsword.
Eventually took paladin to 75, after that BRD to get into the HNM scene, and after that monk for a melee job.
originally, Ninja until I found they were tanks in partys rather than DD
DRG and it was my first 75.
wanted to level mnk... leveled it to lv7 w/o knowing how to /heal, so i just kept fighting > dying > hping... thought hey this sucks im gonna level whm so i can heal myself... somehow while leveling whm i learned to rest and never went back to mnk
After getting some basic grip of the game and reading some guides, it was a tie between PLD and DRG at the start (this was at NA release when Penta was still Holy TP Batman and ninjas didn't tank). First leveled WAR to 18 for subjob, then went around as a WAR/WHM for a bit practising to be a paladin...Then got distracted by leveling RDM, which was sort of the same thing because I got to melee and cast magic but it was funner to solo than WAR/WHM. Somehow got RDM to 30 and started unlocking jobs. Weekend after unlocking DRG didn't sleep and went straight to 31 and that's where it remained for nearly two years. I had got to know a handful of other EUs in-game really well and they were like "wanna static to 75?" and I was like "yeah why not" and they were like "cool, bring your RDM"...
First I was pissed off and considered telling them all to go fuck themselves and leveling DRG on my own but boy am I glad now I didn't.
I've become completely addicted to RDM over the years. All my best gear/merits go into that, other jobs get leftovers and it's what I bring to LS events unless otherwise requested. It's the only job that can hold my goldfish-like attention span. :D
I leveled BRD to help out LS when we didn't have any and eventually got DRG to 75 as well. Just now started working on PLD and damn ToAU expansion, the refresh bish in me is making me consider doing COR, but red mage is where it's at till I get kicked off the server.![]()
Originally NIN, was the first advanced job I unlocked. Got it to 20 and switched to RNG. After lvling RNG and THF to 75 I got around to lvling NIN, and NIN is probably my favorite job to play as.
Red Mage.
I never played any other FF game or any RPG (except for D&D way back in the early 80s.. i am an old dude)
So I wanted to be a healer. My buddy who started a week before me said WHM was where it was at... and Taru had "sick mp pools"
WHM it was... Solo'd taru whm to 12 on top of the hills around bastok. At 12 xp a kill b/c anything else would basicly own me, and all my friends told me WHM w/o cure 2 is worthless.. lol
Got that to 61? It sucked trying to find a damn refresher all the time. So I went BST (as all good WHM's do eventually!) picked up a duo partner at 22 and took it to 75.
About level 60 BSTs my friends wanted to static level 20 jobs all they way to 75... and since I wasn't going to static w/o a BRD in my party well I got to be the BRD lol... took that to 75 (but BST hit 75 first).. static was really great. But we only met on sundays (rl stuff kept it to 1 day a week).
So now I have BST, WHM and BRD at 75...
Not sure what's next.. I want BLM, but its tough getting invites. Static wants to meet again on sundays but now dyna takes that slot..
/sigh I need to take a two week vacation to make a push any good leveling.
I started out as mnk which is still level 12.
Took up RDM because I saw a JP 75 RDM @ Windy AH in full AF and thought he looked cool lol. During the course of leveling RDM early on in Sarutabaruta, I saw a 75RNG running by and blast a crawler. Said to myself, "Fuck this mage shit"
But I have to finish something I start so I finished RDM to 75, unlocked RNG and took to 75 in about 2 months cause I was addicted to it and still am to this day

Didn't know at the time that we were enfeebling gods, but once I saw pictures of the AF it was over. The AF2 came out when I was about level 40 and that made it doubly-over. Three years later and I'm 5/5, woot woot![]()
