    Enforced Class playthrough

I feel like I've been spamming this board, sorry, but I found this at gamefaqs, and I think it's pretty damn sweet. It shows that FFXII isn't necessarily a cakewalk, just that it can be if you take advantage of all the freedom to overpower your characters that the license board system allows. I may try a story campaign playthrough using a few of the classes this guy outlines.

Gamefaqs apprently doesn't allow direct links, but just look for the Enforced Class System Challenge FAQ over there.

So are you implying that characters should be leveled with strict class abilities and spells only that match their natural attributes?

Right, there's a FAQ that sets the "rules" to the challenge. Monk can only use bare fists, gets HP and leather armors only, no magic or MP, etc. Paladin would get lower level white magic, all HP, some MP, only sword and shield.

Basically like that, by picking which characters are going to be which "jobs" that the FAQ defines.

It would be funner if it were an option in the game rather than a really obscure challenge that's not easy to explain, C'mon 3-heart challenge.

P.S. Real challenge: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin on Hard mode with a level cap of 1... I'm about to throw my DS out the window.

I wish the directors and programmers would have thought of this idea, rather than the people on gamefaqs.com.

Agreed. The way the license board is laid out, there are often tiles you have to buy that you don't care to have, just to move onto the thing you do want... like most of the teks you have to buy to get to telekinesis, or when you have to buy a square of light armor or a shield between the two squares of heavy armor you want. All this kinda messes up your clear cut class distinctions.

When I first started the game, I wanted Vaan to be basically just a thief, some teks, speed and hp, and light armor... now at level 50 he's basically a self-healing, self buffing speedDD/tank/healer hybrid, just like my Basch, whom I wanted originally to be a paladin type heavy gear wearing tank/dd.

I think I'll save the game file I'm working on now (my first) for 100% completion of the bestiary and such, and start another file for a strict class/speed run through the story.

Or you could just ignore the license plates that you think that are inappropriate for your character's "job." Just because you spent license points does not obligate you to equip something or use the spell. Of course, I am assuming you are not talking about augment licenses that are always on.

You can also come up with a series of other challenges. Consider these ideas:

    1) Complete a specific battle (choose one) with gambits turned off.
    2) Complete a specific battle (choose one) with a specific equipment set (choose one).
    3) Complete a specific battle (choose one) with fewer than the maximum party members. If you have an unwanted guest, you can even KO them and progress without them.
    4) Do not use mist abilities.
    5) Complete a specific battle (choose one) in record time (time it).
    6) Use gambit: Ally: Vaan > Attack
    7) Complete a specific battle (choose one) by only using gambits (i.e., put down the controller during the fight).

I summoned the Gigas twice, once vs. Elder Wyrm, then to open that door, that's IT.

I never used a Quickening till that T-Rex outside the lighthouse, I didn't even unlock them untill that fight lol

yeah, it's not a problem to ignore a magic or tek or armor panel that you don't need, but it's those Augments that I was mainly getting at. The FAQ I mentioned has rules for what to do when you have to grab augments you don't want (like if you had to buy Brawler for your FFXII whm or something).
