Then why the hell wouldn't he take it... it doesn't even make sense, unless he assumed that I wanted money in return.

Exo I thought you were the one who told the story about how you did that already with another game?

I actually had a receipt though... I don't this time... I took a receipt that my cousin had, which had this specific item I wanted to return, and used it as if it were mine.

Maybe it's becase I came with 3 games... I'll just come with 2 tomorrow and see what they do.

Ok I work retail and I just want to clear a few things up.

First, barcodes should not be a problem. If the store carries the game, the barcode will scan. All products use what is called a Universal Product Code (UPC) that should be read at all retailers who carry the game.

Second, the return policy for store credit will cover any unopened games no matter what. Some stores require a receipt (the smart ones), some don't. Ask to see the return policy in some hard copy (whether a sign or a piece of paper).

Lastly, just bring the games in and ask for store credit or gift cards. Don't ask for a cash refund. Be polite, be nice and don't get angry at the person doing the returns. You'll get an exception if you keep your cool.

Oh and ask to talk to the department manager if they cannot give gift cards. Also if you were to return an old game and exchange it for a new one, it is usually policy for retailers to open up the new copy of the game for you so that you can't return it later for credit.

Okay, but it was the supervisor that came along to see what the lady that dealt with my games was doing... I made it clear that I got it as a gift, and that I didn't have a receipt.

They scanned one of the games, and he said "okay this one's not ours"... so maybe he meant that they didn't carry it.

As for the other two, he told me they were 50 dollars each, but then told me that because I had no receipt there was nothing he could do... now granted, I didn't bring up the store credit issue, but I asked him if he was sure there was nothing he could do, and he said yup.

He wasn't mean or anything... and I was very polite to them as well, so no reason he would be angry at me.

I dunno, i'll just try again tomorrow with the two that did go through when they scanned them.

Try asking for a store policy on electronic returns. You have a better chance of getting what you want if you can use a hard copy of a return policy in your favour. Seems weird that they wouldn't take back an unopened (still in original plastic right?) game. They can turn around and re-sell the game unlike an opened one so I don't see why they would say no.

Biggest thing about retail that we're told to ask when considering a return. Can we re-sell the item? If not, say no. If we can, give them some BS about how nice we're being to make an exception and let them return it. We can make the money back anyway.

Edit: Probably the fact that the first one did not scan, set off a red flag in the supervisor's mind that you were trying to pull something on them. That's why they said no. Seems strange that it wouldn't scan because the UPC should work everywhere but there's your reason why they didn't take any.

Yes it's still in original plastic... factory sealed, all 3 of them.

And I was actually surprised Marvel didn't go through, since they are selling that game everywhere (and on walmart's website as well..) But either way, when I called they said that each store is different and that's why it goes by a game to game basis... which is still weird that he wouldn't accept it.

Probably the supervisor red flagged you in his/her mind when you tried to return a game that clearly wasn't sold at that Walmart (since Marvel did not scan). That's why you couldn't return anything.

So he says a friend got them all here but one doesn't scan where have I heard this scam before? I'm sure by now all Walmart employees know this scheme.

They still make money either way on the ones that are closed, it's not like they were opened and I was trying to return it to them.

Regardless, I'll try my luck at another walmart with just 1 game and see what they say.

Yeah but they might have a store directive that says if a single game doesn't scan don't return any of them (to help prevent losses). Or he knew what you were up to and wanted to fuck you over.

He could of made money on the other two... but if you think about it since you never bought them at Walmart (which he probably knew when the first one did not scan) he stands to lose the value of the game. Walmart never received a sale from you and if he were to return the other two with the knowledge of what you were trying to do he would lose money which is a big no no.

Put it this way. You put Walmart in a hole per game lets say 50.00 so a total of 100.00. In a normal return you would of paid that 100.00 to Walmart and by returing it, things would be back at even. But since you did not get it at Walmart, they are now down 100.00

Even if they were to sell both games at full retail, they would be at even and not 100.00 profit. So if he knew what you were doing he could not return it as he would be losing potential profit.

Things must be different over there lol.

Here if you don't have a receipt or proof of purchase you can't do squat. - Even if it had the stores pricing labels still on it.

    One thing to consider also:
You mentioned you bought the games as part of a bundle package. Sometimes, although not often, bundle packages sometimes use slightly different sleeves and therefore different UPCodes on the games. This is to identify to the administration that a bundle package was sold vs. individual games.

Most stores however just use normal games and promotionally discount to a package price.

Might be worth checking the last few digits on the barcode of your game Vs there's of the same title. Beware not to enter the store with your games, browse and then go ask for a credit. This was one of the main reason's why we always need proof of purchase - someone could enter your store, pick up a product and go claim they bought it and would like a refund/credit.

the bundles arent made by nintendo so its just actual games packaged with it. when a game is in an official bundle it doesnt have a barcode at all and has a "Not available for resale" tag on it.

second thing is the them being even, or down $100. that issue isnt really relevant because even if they sold 2 games you think they are actually up $100? lmao, the profit on a brand new game is next to nothing. that's why eb/gamestop push used games so much.

Oh I know the profit margins aren't as high as I put them but I'm using it to explain the context of the situation.

If they never received your sale in the first place they stand to lose money by giving you a refund. Even by reselling the game they don't make their usual profit.

At a place like Walmart losing any profit even cents worth of profit is a big no no. Walmart is the equivalent of that old man who counts exact change in the express line checkout.
