That's what I did, and the guy wouldn't give it to me.
Whatever, i'm trying again later today with the two that did go through in the scan.

In regards to what I originally started this thread about, here is the final word from ebay:
Because eBay user swetmamakas999 is no longer a registered user, you have received a Final Value Fee credit
lol aka he got banned.
Glad nothing happened.
I knew a guy who used to work at a certain retail store, and every tuesday he'd steal 2 of a movie that came out that day, he'd keep one, and return the other to a Wal-Mart, apparently, they never asked questions.
Some stores you can. My friend always bought stuff at sams club(which is walmarts discount +bulk store) and then returned it to wlamart. He eventually ended up with a 300$ TV from 10$.Originally Posted by Scythiroth
He almost got caught couple of times at sam goody and media play though.
Now that is awesome.Originally Posted by Marsala
Meh bad timing then I guess.
The fact that the email came from mailto:[email protected] seems kinda funny. Since you seemed to be concerned that it was fake, you forwarded it back to mailto:[email protected] (the address whence it came), and they told you the email you supposedly received from that very address was fake.Originally Posted by Po
Now, seeing as the guy spoofed the email he sent to you to make it seem like it came from PayPal, it seems stupid that he'd make it look like it came from mailto:[email protected] rather than whatever email address that sort of thing normally comes from. It'd have been smarter to make it look like it came from, say, mailto:[email protected] or whatever, rather than mailto:[email protected].
Yea clearly.. that threw a red flag from the very beginning.
I still would never have sent the damn thing without the money in my hand or account, but that just made it even more suspicious. That and he wanted it shipped to Nigeria lol.
Oh well, no harm no foul. I got my ebay listing fees back and nothing happened to my paypal account.
Well since everything worked out for the best for the OP, I'm going to try to steal the thread for my own current problem.
How long normally does Paypal take to decide on a dispute and assign the money to either the buyer or the seller? I'm in the midst of a fraudulent claim from a buyer, and he refuses to talk to me after starting the claim so I immediately escalated it to a dispute for Paypal to decide. He falsly (is that a correct adverb? '-') states he hasn't received his item, but it's almost like he was just hoping I wouldn't reply in the 5 day deadline, or whatever it is, where a claim defaults to the buyer and he receives a refund. I've explained myself and provided all of the evidence/information regarding the transaction to Paypal and called them earlier this morning to explain myself again. The payment was already COMPLETE and in my Paypal account before he filed a claim, and it's confirmed he received it, but he's blatantly lying in the Resolution Center. I didn't realize I could essentially lose the money after this point.
I'm trying to be optimistic it'll work out in my favor, assuming they look into the sides presented with any care at all. I've never had to put a lot of money ($1360 USD Paypal has held right now) onto Paypal's judgement before, and I was just curious if anyone knows how thoroughly they investigate or how quickly. Needless to say I'm still a bit worried at the worst-case scenario; I guess I'm just looking for a feel-good story from someone where Paypal quickly and accurately resolved a dispute involving a fraudulent buyer, after a completed payment was received. :/ (which I suppose is the only difference between this and the OP.. and I guess it didn't appear scam-ish beforehand)
It takes them up to a month from what I understand. I've had the same thing happen, but the guy retracted his dispute before Paypal really got into it.Originally Posted by Roranora
If this is a virtual item, just send paypal an email stating just that, and they will close it because there's no way to prove either of you is right.
If it's a physical item, provide them with a tracking number and show that it did indeed arrive at its destination, and you will be cleared as well.
a month..Well, thanks nonetheless. I hope to have good news then.
i ended up forsaking any help from paypal when some guy tried scamming me. Paid through paypal, he sent me an email saying he was cancelling it cause he didn't accept paypal, and i sent him a check. never cancelled and cashed my check and never sent my items. I finally requested his contact info from ebay and left a nice little message on his voicemail saying if I didn' thave a money order for the 170 dollars he took in 5 business days, i'd be contacting the DA in his state to press wire, bank, and mail fraud charges, and let him know how many years in federal prison he'd be looking at for a mere 170 dollars. 5 days later, money order in my mail 8)
