Well I think most war/drk still prefer adaberk for TP/WS (perhaps not for Steel Cyclone), so the peice really shines as the "pld peice", but I guess completely ignoring drg isnt quite fair.... Though i think pld gets far and above more use out of it... But im kind of biased.
If you want to compare the best alternative (Adaman Hauberk) for WAR and DRK to Ares then you might as well for PLD. With that in mind, comparing Hydra Haubert to Ares makes Ares come off just as replaceable (if not more) as you hinted it is for WAR and DRK. I'm actually pretty sure that many PLDs would even prefer the extra enmity from Valor over it, although that's debatable.

Honestly I don't think any one job utilizes Ares body the most, it's a pretty iffy piece. Has it's strong points and all but it's far from monumental for any of the jobs. If anything I think they all benefit just about equally from a general standpoint.
I think what it has going for it for PLD is the refresh on it without chewing up head slot. ares's body, refresh neck, refresh job trait is 3mp/tic. sanction makes it 4, ethereal earring, hercules ring...etc, etc. PLD gets a gross amount of MP back potentially and makes them a good job to hold mobs and low man stuff.

I macro in Valor body for cures, so I make use outta both the Ares's body and Valor. Extra refresh is nice, and good HP/VIT bonuses (lulz @ vit).

yeah, that can be a problem sometimes, but I'm generally don't get so low that it matters. Or I've yet to really have an issue anyways. I also blink when i cast Utsusemi:ichi and think I'll get hit during the cast (switches to shield gear). Then I have a 2nd macro that uses haste gear (no blinking involved). Just depends. And I don't always blink when I cure, depends on how the fight is going or if I need more enmity.

Like I said, I don't always blink when I cure, just depends on the situation/mob/hate levels of other tanks.

On an unrelated note, how much are ores on your servers? Cerberus' has been ever climbing as more and more people do Salvage. It's up to 400k now... I got most of mine for 350-380... Had to get the last couple for 399k. And no, I don't feel like looking all down FFXIAH's ores list.

Whms who can't handle blinking targets = bad whms. Sure it's annoying, but it's part of the job, get used to it.

Eh, I'm a tank and a mage, and I'm inclined to say that excessive blinking is bad. Some things just aren't worth blinking for.

IMO, for major events, the WHMs shouldn't be using <st> macros, they should either have the tanks name in the macro, or at least <p1>-<p5> for cures. Haste can still go on <st> though, it isn't THAT important that second delay during a blink will get you killed. -na spells are iffy, maybe one macro specifically for the main tank, and the other on <st>.

Agreed. I play mostly mage jobs, and I never had a problem with someone blinking. Seriously, not hard to press F1~F6 and then cure macro. A melee blinking shows that you have quality melee. Don't fuck it up by being a sucky mage.

For some reason, i've never heard this said but I can't put anymore words to it to show how true it is. I hate mages who bitch cause I blink on SAM.

    Re: Salvage Gears anyone?

    melee =/= tank blinking.

IMO a blinking tank is a bad thing. Sure it can help but when you are blinking out every 10s it gets annoying as shit. I'm not a healer but just watching the few tanks I see blink out, they typically suck and in the end their mages seem to struggle to cure them. A Blinking Melee is w/e, though if I really need a cure and am somehow dying in xp pt I try not to blink. Being a tank, I just don't get blinking when actually tanking something harder then a xp mob. I do it a ton on ninja in xp, but that's kind of a different thing like I said.

It's rdms blms smns etc that you're assisting by not blinking every single cast moreso than the whms.

And yeah, huge difference between xp blinking or just blinking in general as a DD and a tank on HNM.

good whm will be non-lazy and do /ma paralyna Arthars or other tank on boss or /ma haste arthars or someone else since we usually have 2 whm i i am being VERY KIND to lessen her work by just focus on 1 person

ended up i still get "i am slow because i am not in main pt, and i dont have macro space"

I MEAN WTF YOU SURE HAVE HASTE AND PARALYNA MACRO RIGHT? so i say "just replace <t> with name of tank for this run i am helping you do lesser work"

she said "i dont like to swap my ready made macro"

yes my salvage grp's whm said that and trust me i hope she dont come everyweek now

    Re: Salvage Gears anyone?

Focusing your attention on one tank is retarded. It eliminates the freedom for one mage to rest while another is doing the casting. A RDM can always take over while one of the WHMs is resting, and it's fine to have "main focuses", but if Tank A is getting owned (a nice Double Attack Critical Hit can bring me from 2500 HP down to 800 pretty quickly), and only Mage A is curing them, they aren't going to last long. If your mages can't hit two keys at the same speed they can hit one, they are retarded and slow, don't bring them.

A macro with <stpc> is clearly the most efficient, because unless you're slow, you can hit macro -> F1-6 and have it casting before any worry about blinks. Restricting yourself to <name here> makes it significantly slower to cast that spell on anyone else, because you either have to grab it from your spell list or type it out. Yuck.

it is not retarded if the whm is retarded she cant even cure and target fast enough when not in main pt, which means she obviously cant spell out names or lazy to do so -_-

and yea i got rdm to help out when my 1st whm is outa MP(seldom happen) rather than have her whm(which is slow and lazy as hell) cure me up

I have no problem with blinking normally every 20 -30 sec, no problem with putting in your perfect setup for flash/provoke, but I had tanks that were so excessiv with blinking, that I basicly lost target even by pressing multiple times Fbuttons. Blinking every 5 sec = bad, it just makes mee go nuts.

There's really no reason for a tank to blink that often. I suppose if a tank wants to increase the reduction on Utsusemi, they could use it for Ni, but it's almost pointless for Ichi. Personally, I only blink for WS.

    Re: Salvage Gears anyone?

It's retarded to blink every 5seconds, there's just no need for it. But blinking during a +shield skill macro for Utsusemi: Ichi is fine. And during curing - only if you need more hate (not every 5 seconds either).

It also depends on the HNM you are fighting. If it's one I think could kill you in like 2-3 hits after shadows are done, I wouldn't blink that often. And after like Khimaira's dreadstorm, I won't blink because I know I'll need a cure immediately after while terrorized. There's a difference between tanks who blink constantly w/out hesitation and those who time their blinks to best suit the needs of the situation.
