    Re: Salvage Gears anyone?

    Yes I tested it. Full Marduk brings song recast timers from 24 secs to 22 secs. Brings Mazurka recast from 1m to 57 sec. It's a far far cry from an all out haste set on BRD but for situations where that's not required I think that it will be a good gear set. I don't have a dalmatica so the refresh + relic ballad is a very nice bonus for me.

    and it's the Allure Ring +1 that Muteki gave me as a present when Ruke and I got married in game.

    8% fast cast should bring 24 second recast down to 23 seconds only. You sure it isn't 9 or 10% total fast cast?

    yeah, I was wondering about the math as well. 4% Fast Cast seems a bit odd; 5% is a commonly used amount on Fast Cast items, and would match the 5% bonus reported on Usukane. Should test it with a number of different spells, with different recasts, remembering that numbers are generally truncated and not rounded in this game.

    now that we have some full sets, maybe we can test a nyzul weapon with em?

    Didn't realize that everything was base 256 math

    anyway, here ya go

    I died! Longer recast should help clarify exact fast cast value.

    RR3 base recast = 120 sec.
    body only = 117
    full set = 115

    Have at it math folks! I'm feeling lazy.

    Most likely 5/256 and 5/256 for both body and the set bonus I think...so about 4% each, assuming that the 'fast cast' is double the recast reduction right?

    Re: Salvage Gears anyone?

    Here's some quick math I hammered out, I think I'm doing this right:
    Code:
    Body:
    117    x
    --- = ---
    120   256

    x = 249.6 -> 249
    Bonus = 6/256 = 2.34375% -> ~2%

    Full set:
    115    y
    --- = ---
    120   256

    y = 245.3 -> 245
    Bonus = 11/256 = 4.296875% -> ~4%
    I floored any decimal results after each step since most calculations in FFXI seem to work that way. So it would seem that the Fast Cast bonus for wearing the full set is indeed 4% recast/8% cast time, slightly faster than using body/rostrum pumps combo.

    This implies 9/256 or 10/256 total reduction (ie. 4%, so you were right in the first place), except that it still doesn't jive with the 24-->22 second drop (at least 11/256 reducion). I'll just assume that latter measurement was off due to lag or some other mistake at this point, and your first report of 8% total fast cast was correct.

    My post above actually shows it to be 11/256 using Sylphet's numbers.

    The thing is 5/256 + 5/256 = 10/256, not 11/256, and the body bonus couldn't be 6/256 (due to other recast values achieved) meaning that it would have to be the set bonus that got 6/256. In any case, I think even saying it is calculated in 256ths is a bit premature, unless there are other tests showing that Fast Cast is calculated with 256ths. FFXI doesn't use 256ths exclusively, and in fact seems to alternate between between decimal and 256 for seemingly no good reason, even in the same overall calculations. The data here is very slim, so I would say it's still very possible that it is either 5/256 each for body/set or even -2%, since those would bring 24 second recasts to 23.06 and 23.04 respectively, and if /recast would only register "23" for .04~.06 seconds, that could easily be missed. Since the difference between the two is so minute (.02% for every 1%) it will be hard to tell unless some more tests are done including stacking other Fast Cast bonuses like loquacious and RDM subjob, and looking for recast differences that would vary by at least one second depending on what the bonus is.

    Didn't someone do calculations a while back showing that FF calculates in /512 ?

    Again, FFXI doesn't seem to pick one system and stick to it, some calculations are 256, some are decimals, and I think you're right that maybe Haste is possibly in 512ths? In any event, my point was more that there isn't enough data to say that Fast Cast recast is even done in 256ths, let alone to say that Marduk Body+Set bonus is definitely a specific bonus of that form.

    Almost all calculations it does using fixed point math with integers; very few operations actually use floating point.

    Sorry I wasn't trying to suggest that it did use floating point calculations, just that some calculations use 256ths, while others use fixed point math, with a fixed number of decimal places (0-3, and usually truncating anything beyond that), but that the number of decimal places used varies depending upon what it is that is being calculated, although not within a particular calculation itself.

    Recast is definitely 22 secs on a 24 sec recast. It's not lag.

    Then I don't know. 11/256 reduction should bring 120sec recast down to 114.84sec, which I'd think would be truncated to 114. A reduction of 21/512 is consistent will both results though, so maybe that's it.
    EDIT: Wait, no it isn't. It still gives just barely gives 24-->23sec. So unless there's some systematic lag there so that it always shows up as 22sec or the game rounds up 114.84 to 115, I don't know what to say.

    In any case, congrats on the full set!

    Or, the more "FFXI"ish way to look at it (out of the player's favor), is to view it at 5.16 sec off recast time, turnicated to 115sec recast.
