I can't really defend the mask, maybe he was just showing it off? lol

Using Ares Cuirass full-time though, isn't such a bad idea with some minor gear tweaking. If you take a normal merit PT WAR and look at his body & rings only, chances are he uses the following gear:

    TP gear:
    Hauberk
    Sniper's Ring x2

    WS gear:
    Hauberk
    Flame Ring x 2

Now, take this same WAR and give him an Ares Cuirass. Now tweak his TP & WS gear to the following:

    TP gear:
    Ares Cuirass
    Sniper's Ring x2

    WS gear:
    Ares Cuirass
    Sniper's Ring x2

So this WAR for meleeing will have 10 less accuracy, which on any sushi WAR the impact is minimal (and if you're a meat WAR, you'd probably have your weapon fully merited, so my educated guess is it'd balance out), and also you will get Attack+30 (the native Attack+24 plus Attack+6 from the STR+12). That's a Juggy-quality bump to your DoT.

For WS, you'd lose STR+10 from the flame rings and STR+5 from Hauberk. Cuirass is STR+12 so you'd have 3 less STR for WS overall. You'd have the same accuracy on your WS since you're taking Hauberk's out, and replacing it on the ring slots. On top of it, Attack+18 on your WS that you didn't have before (30 from Cuirass minus the 12 (10+2) from Hauberk). Not so shabby.

Maybe the upgrade is marginal, but it's still an improvement. I'd personally go for it, so I wouldn't lol too much at it.

Edit: Fixed STR & Attack math since I forgot to account for Hauberk's STR+5. Also, not accounting for DEX+5's impact on accuracy.

What's wrong with the mask, it's acc+12, atk+12 isn't it? I've always seen o-hat as comparably to turban when accuracy isn't capped, and the mask is the same thing, except with 2 more acc and 12 more atk. It seems to be the best thing for rampage at the very least.

I'm with ya there... that Mask would be HAWT for Multi-Hit WS...

But I'll stick to Turban for Tp

I actually think this is an interesting discussion that will become more common over the next few months as the Salvage pieces become more common. For jobs like Warrior, Dark Knight, and Dragoon (well for every mele, but I am speaking to ones effected by Ares) parses have shown time and time again that haste rules. And with the current equipment options available it basically revolves around an Accuracy Body (Hauberk/Adaberk/Homam) as well as the neck and at least one ring slot while filling in the rest of slots with haste.

Individual Ares pieces just don't work like that. You can't just swap an Ares Body for a Homam Corazza on a DRG without swapping other gear, their accuracy would be too low. Are Warriors going to want to give up 5 haste on their head for 12ACC and 12ATT? Ares body is certainly not a replacement for an Adaberk, but what about all the Hauby/Hauberk WAR's and DRK's out there? Does it make sense to rearrange their gear to fit the Ares piece or two they will have acquired, or would doing so just make them inferior to what they previously were?

My personal feeling for a Hauby WAR/DRK would be to use the Ares body, and swap their hands and feet to Amir Feet and E. Hands. This would let them gain the benefit of the enhanced Strenth and Attack while keeping their prime haste pieces (Head, legs, belt) in tact.

The head, it's really a tough call IMO. 5% haste is a lot.

Either way, I think it will lead to a lot of interesting discussion. And it will be interesting to see if Ares pieces get main use or become relegated to WS swap pieces until people actually complete the set.

Haste build for DRK is "eh". Honestly it seems like another /NIN situation that doesn't work for DRK either, but people push it because it's the latest trend.

Swinging a 528 delay weapon, the amount of Haste gear you'd have to pile on to make a significant difference would cut directly into your attack so much that you hitting faster wouldn't matter. A scythe with a base damage of 95-97 is affected by a loss of Attack way more than a one-handed axe or sword.

Give me a good ol' fashioned STR/ACC/Attack set up and I'm set. The Ares set in my opinion is custom made for DRKs. The rest of what you said about other jobs is true though.

You say that like DRG have naturally bad accuracy. Before Homam, Assault Jerkin was the main piece for DRG, which has very little accuracy on it. DRG has an A+ weapon, Accuracy Trait, and alternative places for accuracy. I don't know, but I don't think you are right on this. Ares seems to have much more to offer compared to Homam. Haste builds on DRK and DRG are very cobbled together and require a lot of compromise, outside of full Homam sets which require other sacrifices.

...why are you even comparing a piece of TP gear to a piece of WS gear?

Hehe yeah but try a full haste build (Turban, Swift, 3x homam) on a DRG with an Assault Jerkin. Before homam, a DRG's other slots were also filled with an Optical Hat and a Life Belt. Unless you are perhaps in the Mire full haste plus AJ will not yield you enough accuracy. Anyway, this is slightly of topic now. I may make a topic over in the Newbie Section later tonight to keep this going.

Anyway, Rerailing...post more pics of new Salvage gear!

At least for Dragoons, there's not too much sacrifice involved. With 4/5 Homam and a Turban (and a Swift) you can have 18% Haste and enough accuracy from gear to hit damn near anything in xp and still use meat. I'm still in the process of building my Haste set (since my linkshell's just getting into Omega), but I use less Accuracy gear now than I would from my theoretical Haste build, so there's really no loss of attack if you can still rock the meat.

Ares seems like the basic ACC/ATK build taken to a whole new level. There are a few meh pieces though (the legs and feet come to mind when comparing them to Black Cuisses, Homam, or Drachen Brais+1), but if the Double Attack set bonus is substantial enough there's no reason not to wear the full set over anything else.

I think Ares is comparable to Homam, but there are some situations where I would definitely go Homam first.

Ares legs are better than homam legs, concerning a DD role. The haste provided in homam for drg and drk are extremely minimal considering the haste options they get as well as where their delay floor lies between taking them on and off.

Plus I think the additional double attack balances out the 3% change.

Edit: 2h DRK. I can't really say for sure, with the hasso change, though. Homam would probably be better for a dual-wield drk, though. Can't say 100% on that, either.

Serious question, i guess im just missing something, but why do people suggest 5% haste (or w/e number) does more for people dual wielding than those not? Isnt it 5% less delay either way? Wouldnt 50% haste be 2x as many swings, no matter what you are swinging? How does the delay of your weapon have any impact on the value of haste?

if the mob you're fighting never dies, then in the long run the delay of your weapon doesn't change how effective haste gear is for you. however, if the fights are only lasting ~60 seconds (from engage to kill) and you're using a 528 delay scythe, you're only swinging like 6 times per fight (60 second fights / (528 delay per swing / 60 delay units per second) = ~6.82).

6.82's close to 7, so it's not going to take much haste to be able to hit 7 times in 60 seconds. let's see exactly how much:

    60 seconds / 7 swings * 60 delay units per second = 514 delay
    1 - 514/528 = 2.65%

and let's see how much haste we need to hit 8 times in 60 seconds:
    60 / 8 * 60 = 450 delay
    1 - 450 / 528 = 14.7%

this means, for the contrived example in which every fight lasts 60 seconds, you're not going to have any change in swings (and thus physical damage output) per mob between 3 and 14% haste being added. the reason it's different for people who use shorter delay weapons is that they swing faster so the space between these steps is shorter.
