FFVXIII will own if they use it in it.
Does this mean more action based RPGs like FFXII? If so, bleh until I see it in action.
The unreal engine is very flexible and can handle more than just fps.
Action games from SE will be very good from now on if they all use it... I doubt they will make the next FF like that though (well, not the official FF13 anyways...maybe versus.)
Yeah, just have to wait I guess. I can't really complain until I see what they do with it.Originally Posted by Devek
The article says that they are developing their own engine for that. like Exo said, I can't see them making an FF game out of this. They are prob going to make a platform/action rpg game ala kingdom hearts.Originally Posted by Exoduso
What does the graphics engine really have to do with the game genre?
I don't know, I just assumed certain genres used certain engines. ;/Originally Posted by miokomioko
Because they will only use it on specific genres...?

Purchasing an engine like this (which has a truck load of support) is a smart move, it will cut down development and finding people who are able to work well with it is easy.
That, and it also leaves the possibility of a cross platform game (like final fantasy xi) but I highly doubt thats in their agenda. The Unreal engine is capable of supporting an MMO game. I forgot which game uses it but one is out there.
Huxley (and it's an MMOFPS lol)Originally Posted by Zigma

Just kinda' wanted to get it out there that the engine doesn't really have anything to do with the genre of gameplay once it's being licensed out. It's just calculations for visuals and physics. Other genres might not utilize all the options like projectile physics and volumetric clouds, but for the most part every game these days is 3-dimensional with as many polygons as they feel users can handle with as realistic lighting as they can manage.
It might be strong enough for a FPS, but it's pH balanced for an RPG.
It's for Dirge of Cerberus 2.
Lost Odyssey for example... (wth is it supposed to come out anyways?.. >.>)
I'd cry if that game got a sequel.. >.>Originally Posted by Scythiroth
Wut? I think you have it opposite; Unreal Engine was created for an FPS. But yeah, it can be used for other things.Originally Posted by miokomioko
Obviously. However, FPSs are generally much more graphically intense than most RPGs, thus it needing a beefier engine. It was a crappy joke anyways. Just because the engine was originally built for an FPS doesn't mean anything when Square-Enix uses it.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX

Unreal-engine based MMO that got canned.
