that cool video that came out a little while ago, of the airship in the sky? didn't they say that they didn't even know for sure how the engine would be able to handle graphics like that, and it was pretty much just for show? game probably wont be out for a loooong time

People really need to keep in mind that FF12 took like 3 and a half years to make, on the PS2.

The development time for a game of equal calibur on a system like the PS3, that actually takes advantage of the system, at the very least is going to take just as long.

Nobody should be expecting the game soon. I'd say early 2009 is realistic in America all things considered.

lol I suppose, but once they start making games it will be worth it (like certain FF/KH games that SE only makes in Japan and never releases to anyone else... it would be nice to just be able to port that PS3 game.)

Hi Console Battle Thread! We've missed you!

Wii interest is has begun to peak a bit, and will certainly pick up again after Super Smash Brothers and Metroid come out.

Then 2 months after they're out the Wii owners will be wondering why the fuck they essentially bought another Gamecube with a gimmick controller for 3 or 4 games of retardation(and some momentary fun, I admit).

But...

Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo, Assassin's Creed etc etc will all be out by then for the PS3. So "Sony doesn't have any good games" won't be applicable anymore lol.

May be unrealistic to some, and to others it seems like deja-vu, as PS2 did the same thing to the market around 2002-2003.

Even though you're 100% right, the Wii is just a buffed gamecube with a gimmick remote controller... after a few months it's not that great anymore.

I don't have any of the newest gen consoles yet. I reckon I'll pick up a PS3 somewhere down the line for Metal Gear and FF at least, hopefully there'll be a nice price drop between now and then. The 360 doesn't have any games I'm sold on as of yet, and while a Wii looks novel, I'm not sure about it. I'll probably get one sometime, maybe if a good Metroid comes out for it.

IMO, all of the consoles have a long way to go before they can be considered must-buys. For the time being, I'm going to put my cash toward a nice gaming PC, which is something I've never had. I'm looking forward to catching up on the last ~10 years of excellent PC titles.
