Saw it at a sneak preview where the director, Forest, the scottish kid and the hot african wife chick attended and did a panel discussion for it, back in like august. It's pretty good, Forest is awesome. Worth a watch.

the prestige > the last king of scotland. the prestige's plot had me at the edge of my seat and it didn't give up the last secret until the last scene, quite amazing really.

I can't believe you guys did not like this movie, I thought it was freaking excellent.
Not fucking one of you saw that final twist coming, and don't try and say you did. And every character was fucking awesome, especially those 3 brothers when they drove by a few times with the loud ass music and then just blasted Dupree (Afflek) and his boys.
There is one part I still don't understand though. Who was the real Sparazza? Obviously that Freeman guy became Sparazza, so did Sparazza not exist until Freeman became him? This is one point I cannot understand.
Also, Jeremy Piven fucking rocks. Ari Gold ftmfw.

Went to see this movie with a group of friends, seven of us total. Halfway through, only three of us were left. Me and two others. I didn't leave because I wanted to see if it got any better, but it didn't. This movie was trying to be so many different things, but just kept coming up empty each and every time. Is it a Tarantino dark comedy? Nope. Is it Guy Ritchie Snatch esque? Nope. All it ended up being was a mess of a film that Joe Carnahan should be ashamed of putting out. Maybe it was supposed to be a mess on purpose, I don't know, and after paying $10 to see it I don't care.

You would think that with all the stars in this movie that what I saw in the theater must have been good to draw the names it did. How they all didn't see this being the shit bomb it became though is beyond me. I mean the plot could have been something good, sleazy person needs knocked off, and everyone tries to do it. Hell, I thought from the previews that Jeremey Piven would be a kick ass actor to play Buddy, but damn he just gets dull and the over the top routine gets old fast, even I wanted to kill him.

None of the bad guys were tolerable either. The worst were the Tremor Brothers... Kevin Durand, Chris Pine, and Maury Sterling who play the brothers were just awful... If they were supposed to provide comedy they failed miserably. One of them playing puppet with the corpse of Ben for a few minutes while the other two wrestle like retards does not entertainment make despite best intents.

I don't know.. I mean the movie is fucking mess. I tried to enjoy it, but the FBI agents, the hitmen, all the blood and gore, you hope it was leading to something but by the time the complicated, plot holed story gets to the end, I just didn't care... ending suprises and all. The movie was a good idea on paper, and maybe that's why it got so much star power, but in reality it's just shit... Po, your Sparazza question is just one of the many plot holes I found as well. Maybe Joe Carnahan had it edited to hell by the stuido, I can't honestly for the life of me see how someone who made such a great film like Narc could have fallen so far as to give us this tripe on purpose.

It's not hollywood that's affecting the "accuracy" of the story, since it's being directly based off Frank Miller's storyline

It was a great movie, I don't get where these people are saying it was bad.
Garcia is the Deputy Director of the FBI, and he oversees the FBI side of things, to extract Jeremy Piven's (Aces) character to secure him as the key witness against the mob. Halfway through the movie his role somewhat changes and the reasons are not clear until the end. None of that is spoiling anything I assure you.

I'm gonna post this again because it is really bothering me.

Greetings. What a topic to make my first post in.
Smoking Aces, wasn't oscar winning but I enjoyed it. Haven't seen Snatch but may now just for comparision.
Ben getting offed that quickly into the movie was GREEEAAAT!
Never saw it comin.
Call 'em cliche but I liked the Nazi-punk hitmen. They'd be the last kinda ppl I'd wanna run into in a dark alley.

I saw it this weekend and thought it was meh, alright. I actually did figure out just about all of the "twist" about halfway through the movie, but then again, I'm always trying to beat movies like this before I get to the end, lol. The action was kind of disappointing, ended up being more of a bloodbath than I thought, and I went into the movie thinking Buddy Israel was going to be some sort of badass, and that was not the case at all.

Still, it had its moments, and I wouldn't say not to go see it if you're into that kind of movie.

From friends experiences I won't be seeing this movie. She and her bf almost fell asleep after she picked up on the ending half way through.

When someone who thoroughly liked Snatchand Lock Stock suggests I wait to see it on TV, I'm gonna do just that. Kinda disappointed though.

I'm honestly surprised from the overall negative opinion of this movie. I was so upset when the movie ended because I wanted it to keep going.
The best part was still that loud ass car with the 3 brothers going past 3 times then just blasting Afflek and his boys.. priceless.
