I dont know if this is the right forum for this, but it certainly does not belong in Advanced discussion. I know you have all probably read lots of these type of "check" threads, but this one in particular really pissed me off.

First off, I dont check spam people. I dont even really check at all, but if I wanna see a piece of gear, or check someone because I want to; I do. I'll check once, no more. I dont even question them on it, where they got it, why these use it etc. Ill check and be done with it. So, my two friends and myself were otw to do Rivenwort and Fire in the Sky ENM and I check this JP DRG.

I wont get into details, about how I could check someone as much as I want and nto do anything wrong, the check filter etc. The facts are, I checked him once, and this is the conversation. I dont see how 1 check is "stalking and harassment" lol but whatever.

Also, I have nothing against JP. My HMLS is majority JP and I get along well with the non-anal ones. Im posting this here in hope of a partial/full translation, as Id like to know what this prick was saying to me, thanks.

You used autotranslator that showed up in Japanese. Ovbiously if you can type kanji into autotranslator, you were typing in Japanese... in his mind.

I've seen a JP THF around on my server... wish I could remember her name. She had what looked like really good gear, so I was curious.

I found that every time you check her, she will swap gear for at least a minute. And when she stops, if you try to check her again, gear swaps again! I never understood why.

Found out as of two days ago she still does it.

I argued for like 20 minutes with this JP one day trying to find out why the fuck he wouldn't just turn on the filter if it pissed him off so much when he got checked.

I still don't understand it.

edit: I should say that I speak Japanese and play with JPs a lot, I've even been in a few mission-specific endgame and social LS with them. There's just some things that I'll never understand from their perspective, though.

Most of the jp i associate with does not listen to my advice or opinion at all once they know i'm a gaijin even though their idea is more stupid and will not work at all. Does not matter even if i can type and speak Japanese quite fluently. All i can say is that they seemed to have a filter in their brain to block out ideas outside from japan.

Then a minority of them are cool and they actually listen. Well these are mostly those who can type english quite well though

It's like not eating with your left hand in more conservative Muslim countries or other social taboos you'd find weird because you have no fucking idea why they exist.

When your culture comes from a pack of testosterone-poisoned (read: samurais) men who packed long, sharp swords and would cut you DEAD for looking at them funny...staring is considered a rude, stupid thing to do. It's like giving the biker guy down the bar a double one-finger salute. Checking someone is the virtual equivalent of a stare. Spam checking them is the aforementioned full-fledged pair of flipped birds.

Turning off the notice works fine, yeah- but the point's supposed to be he doesn't have to. Asking is supposed to be enough (if anything, you're not supposed to in the first place- ask first, get a response then check is the polite thing to do - it indicates you're not treating the person in question as not being an object of distant contempt but rather polite curiousity.), though. Most JP players don't have a problem in the world if you ask first and the ones that do are asses by anyone's standards.

Short form: /check but ask first, get a yes = "Hey, that's neat. Can I see?" (and saying no is the -other- person being rude, since you asked politely). /check without saying anything = "WTF are you doing here, you look like a n00b" = you're an ass.

That's how I got it explained to me when I was starting by a bilingual Japanese player, in any case.

Yeah but most Japanese that care have already filtered or just ignored this. I will /check anyone. If someone checks more than 2 times, then it can be annoying, but 1 time? >.>;

I actually got yelled at by a JP player one time for checking them... the problem was that they had their bazaar open. All I wanted to do was check their bazaar so I checked them, they changed gear I checked them again, they yelled at me, I told them with autotranslate that I was checking their bazaar and they didn't say much after that.
