This is why I check people with bazaars :3

Anyone asks, just say "{bazaar} {/check}". Then you can look all you want at the person's gear

Or they can just remove the sand from their vagina and filter it ??

I mean, are they that stupid that thinking changing gear will dissuade someone from checking them ??
Or we can stop calling characters "toons", am I right?

Pot-kettle-black, NynJa. They're gearswapping because it's one way to tell someone indirectly to stop fucking staring at them, because the game mechanics allow you to stop many /checks by doing so.

It annoys many JP players if you check without asking. People who know that and keep doing it are just being assholes themselves. It'd be like knowing you were reading a thread and editing every time someone uses the word "character" with a replace of "toon" in every single post. Just to get some sand in your vagina, ya know. Because there's no wordfilter for "toon" on BG.
thats nice...SE was kind enough to include a filter for when people check you for anally retentive shmucks who get their panties in a twist because a video game character is "staring" at their video game character.

Use it or shut the fuck up.

So where do we draw the line then? Say something offensive, filter all /says? Shouts? Tells? I dunno about you, but my /blist is full already.

The filter's there for when people use /check inappropriately (hi2uspamschex), not to do the virtual equivalent of plugging your ears and going LALALALALA while it's being done. Yeah, it's different. Like JP parties who disband completely when they lose a member instead of plugging in a new member. You got a problem with respecting other people's social structures?

The filter was put in as an asshole firewall for geniuses who think it's funny to spamcheck someone, not an excuse to do something another player finds offensive behind their "backs". About a minute to learn "JP player, hates blind checks. Ask." and five seconds in game to go "Check, {Can I have it}? " in a tell to satisfy your curiousity.

Call me an oldfashioned Bitnet-era user who believe in outdated concepts like "Net etiquitte" if you gotta, but it's a thin line between being an asshole and drama of a griefer's level. Big fucking pushable button, easily avoided with knowledge. Why push it and add to the load of crap people online deal with as-is?

seriously nothing is being "Done" behind their backs if they use the filter who the fuck cares if you get checked PLEASE explain to me why you care when it has no impact on you. and dont make anymore lame analogies. People who dont like being checked are just using it as a lame ass excuse to be all pissy and emo and try to act like they are better than you for being "Polite" when that word does not even apply. if you have the filter on as far as you are concerned no one ever checks you EVER. its not like you get an itchy feeling in the back of your head everytime you get checked with the filter on. nothing happens.

You mean like when you're standing somewhere, you see another character walk in and their head swivels to point straight at you?

Nope, never happened. I don't use a filter, I could care less if people /check me unless you get off on doing it 20 times a minute. But it's pretty damn obvious when someone's literally having their PC stare at you, even if you don't have the filter on. Go ahead. Line four people up in front of your character. See how quick each one can tell you're looking at them.

I have had three JP people get annoyed at me, I've had frickin PT's ruined because some pea-brained n00b with the social skills gathered from living in their mother's basement for 25 years decided it was fun to keep checking the JP whenever, till they end up leaving. And there's no replacement. And I don't fucking get to exp for a while. And needless to say, this pisses me off.

So yeah. It does matter. It does happen. And regardless of whether it's all sand in the vagina, it fucks with me being able to play because Joe Social Reject gets his jollies pissing off another PT member cause they don't like being blind /checked.

TL ; DR version: Doesn't bother me personally, bothers enough people I've PT'ed with to warn people not to fucking do it.

so in the ffxi you play the pc only looks at other pc's they are checking not when they target them? because in my ffxi my character looks at whatever i have targeted... so if that is the case then maybe its the targeting the other players that is rude. next time i am in a pt with a player who gets mad at being checked i will also make sure to tell the whm to not cure them because they might get mad at being targeted. and i am not saying the behavior doesnt happen but in the case of your party its not the noob who checks the other person who is pea brained it is the person who gets all pissed off like a whiney little brat and leaves the party because the game engine informed them with a neat little text message that someone is admiring their gear or seeing what they have in their bazaar. you can easily argue that the players who get mad at being checked are being just as intollerant and rude to the players who do not think it is such a big deal and understand it. tollerance is a two way street and when players get so pissed off so fast and are rude about it then i say fuck them check away.

People who have issues being examined shouldnt be around other people. End of story. Its easy enough to understand that, if you fucking hate seeing "xxx examines you/xxx stares you up and down", its a lot less work to click the filter 5 years ago, and never have this be an issue, than to have to acknowledge someone's plea to look at you multiple times a day. The filters are there to be used, initially put in by the JP, for the JP, then converted to other languages. First and foremost it has been there to serve JP to whatever extent they can make use of it, and if they choose to not rid themselves of the "xxx examines you/xxx stares you up and down" text, then you as another player, fully reserve the right to check them until you're satisfied.

If someone flips gear while you're checking them, be it because of macro switches in battle situations, or just pretty gear you like to run around in, go ahead and check them again. Dont be mad if they have a legit reason to be swapping gear often, but do continue to check them if they continue to swap in an effort to close your equip screen. Hey, if they can say "ASK FIRST!" you can say "NO!" just as loudly

One should be so blessed to be--even for an instant--the object of my gaze. (*'-')

The thing that annoys me about check is:

What the fuck is so interesting about my equipment (i.e. standard wal-mart BLM and WHM mage gear) that you have to check me out of all the other endgame chars standing near me?

You know, it really doesn't matter why checking annoys people... the fact that it does should be incentive enough to not do it. A black person might find the word "nigger" rude, or a gay person might find the overuse of "fag" annoying... and it's not something they should have to turn on their parental filter for or learn to ignore.

They find checking rude... you can respect it, or not. They're likely to show you the same respect in return.

to me i dont respect the fact that people find /check to be rude because in my mind it is irrational and the only explanation is that they are looking or a reason to feel superior to others and have a reason to yell at them call them rude or call them a noob.

the people i have met who dont like being checked jump on people so fast after being checked only once that they do not deserve any respect or courtesy. if you walk up to someone there is no "please dont check me" marker so if someone checks them once its no big deal they can just say something polite, fact is most people are assholes aout it so it becomes easy to be an asshole back about it.

i really really do not understand why they cant just use the filter. if you dont see the message you have no idea anyone is checking you and it has no effect on your gameplay or character so why waste your energy getting mad about it. just a bunch of stupid emo bullshit of people trying to make up fake rules so they can feel justified in yelling at people.

i have always been taught if you have a problem instead of whining about it try to find a solution, there is a solution its called a filter USE IT! if you dont you choose to subject yourself to seeing the /check message in the chat log and have no right to be pissed off about it.

and stop trying to use lame ass analogies of things this compares to in real life because it doesnt this has no effect on the player and all that crap about using the "n" word or saying fag has a direct effect on someone and they cannot filter it out. ignoring it isnt the same as filtering it in a chat log. and yes ingame there is a chat filter too that if you dont like foul language you can choose to filter it out. if someone complains about others saying bad words and consciously chooses to not use the chat filter then they have no right to complain and bitch and whine they chose to put themselves in a situation where they might see bad language and chose to not use the tool presented to them to filter out bad language they might not want to see.

Sorry, I am just trying to say that no matter what it does not compare to real life situations.

That and I have been up for a really long time, I didn't realize my last post was so long.

So, where do you draw the line between acting like a princess and having a good reason to be offended. Just because someone is offended doesnt mean he is right to be. There is retarded reason to offended by something, and getting pissed because someone checked your gear is amongst those.

Hell, some racial slur are borderline stupid at time.

if I /check them and told me not to /check. That means the message displayed in their chat log is due to /check, not /stare. I usually ignore what they say.

Because, well... they know I did /check, not /stare. There's no bad intention behind the /check.
