I never cared what the hell is "says on their console" when I checked them, it's just Alt-C...they do it the same damn way to each other.

That's fine, just don't be surprised when they return the same respect to you.Originally Posted by zoobernut

So what you're saying is... I have no reason to be upset about racial slur because I can just filter it if it bothers me so much? Ever tell someone "Don't like the word nigger? Turn on your parental filter!" and then wonder why he reacts the way he does?Originally Posted by zoobernut
My point is it doesn't matter whether we think it's a good reason or not, we know it does offend them, so why do it?Originally Posted by Kaylia
comparing calling someone a nigger to /checking someone is hillarious, /checking someone is more like staring someone in the eyes.

if i wanted to stare at someone in game i'd place my character infront of them and target lock on them...
Actually I said the opposite of that I said with /check in game you can filter it out but in real life you cannot filter out racial slurs so it is a bad example. People have a reason to be upset about racial slurs but no reason to be upset about /check.Originally Posted by Taku
I was talking about in game, which you can filter racial slurs in game with the parental filter, just like you can filter /checks.Originally Posted by zoobernut
Yes, people have a reason to be upset about racial slurs, so we don't use it out of respect for them. Why not show the same respect for people who get upset over /check, regardless if we understand the reason or not. >_>
And in my post I said with respect to ingame only IF someone chooses not to use the chat filter to filter out offensive language then I do believe they should not get mad at other people for talking in a manner that makes them feel uncomfortable.
Safer put it perfectly, read his post.
i saw the sweetet bazaar message from a JP the other day.
it said "Speak JP to me only" something along those lines.
then the next line in the bazaar said. "When in Rome, say as the Romies"
maybe he should learn English correctly before he speaks or tries to criticize.
at first i laughed cuz he butchered an NA saying, then i realized, "is he trying to say FFXI is a JP onry game? and that we should all speak JP cuz were playing it?"
someone should pass him a note reminding him he's on the internet, internet is international , and the universal international language is english, therefore he fails at his own examples, making him a hypocrite
thats exactly what i was thinking. but yeah. i dint say anything. although i shoulda. i am a fool.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, but if you're saying that Racial Slur is OK in game and people are being unreasonable for being upset about it just because they can filter it... then wow, I don't know what to say to that.Originally Posted by zoobernut
I read his post, I don't see how it has anything to do with your post. >_>Originally Posted by zoobernut
Safer explains the difference between rl and ingame in his post that is what I was referring to.
I think racial slurs ingame are bad but if someone is using language that makes me feel uncomfortable ingame I will just filter it rather than go on a rant and freak out at them.
I still do not see the connection between /check and someone using offensive language.
I'm gonna /check you nigga.Originally Posted by zoobernut
theres your connection.
lol Mysterio
So ... we're arguing over using a feature built into a game, that's easily accessible by using a shortcut command?
I'd like to say I've seen a worse argument, but even some of the flame wars on Fark have more intelligence behind them than this clusterfuck.
