If that's really what is says, then has anyone tried getting SE to fix the obvious mistake (translations for /stare and /check mixed up)?

I know SE fails at fixing bigger problems, but they're usually good at fixing the stupid crap like this.

I'll try to remember to add this next time I get bored and email SE's suggestion box again.

For the 2nd time, I'm not making a RL analogy to you.

    It's easy:

    1. They're both words that are rendered in a player's chat box that people find rude.
    2. They're both something that's filterable.
    3. Typing text and CTRL + C are both ingame functions.

Your argument is that people have no right to get upset over being checked because it's an ingame function that can be filtered, therefore you don't respect it and check them anyways.

You can understand that using offensive language makes people upset even though it's filterable, and so you wouldn't use it(I'm assuming). You also realize that checking people makes people upset even though it's filterable, but you do it anyways saying they should just filter it. Why?

    /check is
    ____はあなたをじっと見つめた。

    /stare is
    __は___をじっと見つめた…!

Both pretty much just say staring.

I highly doubt it's the wording that annoys them anyways.

If its not the wording then what is it that is considered "rude" about checking someone?

I take you are white? If someone who has darker skin color or whatever the "correct" term is these days finds something as offensive in "white nations", you can be sure people will make a huge deal about it & change it. However, if you go in Saudi Arabia, Libya, Nigeria or w/e and find something as offensive, do you seriously except they are going to change it? Hint: They won't. That is how we are taught. We are taught to respect their culture/customs no matter where we are, but if something about our culture/customs bothers them, we need to change it.

And about the /check and being polite etc: Well, /shouts tend to annoy me. Should I go ahed and /tell everyone that shouts to stfu since they didn't ask a permission from me to shout? By reading some of these replies, yes. However, for some odd reason I found it a lot better to just turn on the /shout filter.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here.

Is this directed at me? Cause it sounds like you're agreeing with what you quoted of mine.

I never said anyone should be sending anybody tells to stfu.

So shouts annoy you? Wouldn't it be nice if people stopped shouting? Do you lose respect for people shouting garbage? If someone was shouting nonsense and then asked you for a favor, would you do it?

If we were to change all the examples from shouts to checks, that would be exactly how some people feel about checking and what they think of us when we check them.

It's sad that people's maturity level has forced you(and I) to filter shouts. Filtering is the easiest solution to both problems, but not everybody does it, and we shouldn't be using that as an excuse to be rude to them.

I can give quite a few examples. Of course, some very radical things won't change (like allowing parents to circumcisiate girls and such), but smaller ones will. There was some candies called as "Neekerin pusu" (bassicly "Nigger's kiss", but the word itself wasn't offensive at all back when they started seling it. It just meant person who was black and that's it. These days it's more offensive, but still not as bad as in USA) for quite a long while in Finland. It wasn't meant as offensive at all. However, they were forced to change the name. I can barely understand it.

Another candy related thing that was a problem was "Laku-Pekka" (a character on one licorice cane). Pic. It was being sold for about 80 years and then people suddenly started finding it offensive and of course it was removed.

Yes. And I'm agreeing: We are taught to respect other people's customs while most aren't taught to respect ours.

So if I didn't filter them, I would be allowed (well, I am as long as it won't count as harrasing, but honestly I don't find it too wise for many reasons) to send /tells to people that are shouting that they need to ask permission before shouting or something like that.

And really, it's not the maturity level (I can stand a lot of shit without losing myself), it's just the fact I don't care about 99% of the stuff they are shouting & it gets hard to follow linkshell chat.
