What keeps you from quitting?

ffxi is the first stable thing for me to do that was fun, and i first started to really open up to the ppl in my ffxi life. Memories remind me why FFXI is truly a wonderful game.

Some of the most simple, overlooked things in ffxi, like the music of a zone you've been through countless times, or the battle music of a zilart area, remind you of why you keep playing. I like think of all the things i've done, and all the people i've had the pleasure of meeting through ffxi, but i know it gets hard to think that way when current things are kinda shitty. I know i'll quit sometime (probably when im forced to due to time restrictions with work/school/bf), but until that time, i spend my time in ffxi reminescing of the old days, talking to old friends, making new friends, and just enjoying the scenery.

I actually just quit last Thursday. All of a sudden decided that there was many other better and more constructive things I could be doing with my time. It was like a switched flipped in my head. I logged out, canceled my content IDs, and uninstalled the game. Since then I've said my goodbyes and started doing RL stuff.

I find myself now with alot of free time...but that time has been filled so far with hanging out with friends that I have snubbed for the game over the past 3 years...cleaning, getting errands done. I feel very productive.

I'm not saying the game is a waste of time. If you enjoy playing it, go right ahead. My reasons for leaving were more personal. I have some important RL stuff coming up in the next few months, and I got a little tired of the politics and drama that surround the game.

Did I get everything done in the game that I wanted? Of course not. Sure, it would have been cool to get an Aegis, or level another job or two up to 75, or kill Bahamut v2 etc. I'd say the greatest accomplishment was making friends with some really cool people I met in the game. That's worth more to me than any gear I've gotten, and you can't place a price tag on that.

I felt comfortable with leaving my friends because I know those who are really my friends will still talk to me when I leave. I still communicate regularly to a few via e-mail or chat. At first it sucks to leave because you don't know what to do with your time, and you start to second guess that this is what you really want.

Anyway, to the OP...a game is something that is meant to be fun and entertain you. Only you will know when the time is right to leave, but a game should never make you feel depressed, anxious, or angry. Take that into consideration, and weigh your options.

I noticed a serious drop off in the frequency and quality of my interactions with both RL friends and loved ones; and strangely enough, I could tell it was happening all thoughout my playtime. Upon quitting I honestly feel as though I have reclaimed my personal life and really enjoy all of the extra time I have. FFXI was my first and last MMO; I will never play another game that I cannot press "pause" and step away for RL.

I'm still playing because I'm a nerd, and this game seems to attract nerds. So I play to hang out with other people like me.

I basically do Limbus, Dynamis, and Assault each week. I spend the vast majority of my in-game time fishing and chatting with my friends. I stopped doing HNMs b/c _that_ sucked up stupid amounts of time and seriously affected the rest of my life.

Pretty much the same for me.

I don't really do much "endgame" activities anymore and it makes the game much more fun to play. I just help friends and do w/e. If no one is on to do anything with, I just log and play other games or watch anime.

This is actually a main part of the reason why I quit the game ahead of schedule. I didn't want to get any super rare gear and then quit and piss people off. It's happened to me and it ticked me off. It annoyed me too that people would quit so soon after getting their relics. It's sort of a slap in the face to all the people who have helped you along the way.

I think I would quit too if my only job at 75 was BRD. Definitely having more jobs at 75 makes the game a lot more fun imo. Plus, melee/tank jobs take a lot longer to "deck out' than your average mage job.

When I get bored in the game I usually visit forums. Sometimes reading about ffxi is a lot more fun than actually playing it. But the inverse of that also applies too.

I enjoy a lot of things in the game. And even though sometimes I am guilty of starring at my moogle for hours, you just have to set some goal and figure out how to get them done.
