Computer question (macs)

dunno if this is the right place to put it? meh /shoots into the dark.

i dont know how many of you guys use macs or have used them in the past but for what i go to college for (video editing) its basically a necisity for it. As i would be using Final cut pro and other assorted video editing softwears. Now my question is this between these two computers below which will be better? i will be also loading on windows (not sure if ill load vista or just XP) to play games on it as well.

* 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1440 x 900 pixels
* 2GB memory
* 120GB hard drive1
* 6x double-layer SuperDrive
* ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB SDRAM

and then.....

* 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1440 x 900 pixels
* 2GB memory
* 120GB hard drive1
* 6x double-layer SuperDrive
* ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM

no matter what im getting 2gb's of ram my big question is the extra GHz and the extra 128MB on the graphics card going to make that much more of a difference? the price difference is about 500 bucks and im almost sure i can afford both so any suggestions?

Doubling the video ram is definitely going to be noticeable.

If you can afford it, ofcourse get the better; the 2nd is the obvious choice. Though, 500$ is quite a large amount for the gain; where are you ordering this? The 256 and the .17 difference is a pretty small gain for that amount.

If you plan on doing all your homework on your personal machine, and then using it for real business work, get the higest end one you can afford, especially for graphic work.


Stick with XP as a secondary OS, at least until SP1 comes out for Vista. I've heard of people running Vista on Mac, but haven't heard anything good about it (you know its bad when you can't run ffxi on Vista).

Not sure if they have given a release date for Leopard yet, but its something you will really want to look into.
