    Another topic about computer help

I've having some horrible issues with my internet. I know my computer has virus's and i would love to reformat but i do not have my windows CD anymore and do not have any money to spend getting a new one.

My firefox keeps popping up with random pop ups that really fuckin lag my internet when i close them. Theres a little 'click here to uninstall' but everytime i click that it says my IE has had an error and closed or something like that. Anything I can do aside from reformat / pay ass loads of money for a virus protection? Just a simple to use virus protection / killer (i dont know the techy term for it) that anyone knows of? :/ thanks

There's really not much to do since your com is already infested with spyware/virus.

Get a spyware cleaner then get some free online antivirus avast or avg would be good.

Even if you did clean some away and clear virus, it'll still be a good option to format it.

If all else fails, you'll have to reformat your hdd. Get your friends windows cd or something and crack it.

See what I was planning on doing was getting a new computer soon, aka whenever i get enough loot but atm i'm not gonna go and waste money on windows cd/whateverelse then turn around and but a new computer. I was just hoping someone has had the same issue and knew how to resolve it. Thing is i can't even remember the last time i ever downloaded anything / used limewire or w/e... this shit just randomly popped up.

download those 4 programs and install em. reboot and go into safe mode. run the first 3 in safe mode, purging out as much as you can. you may need to do this 1-2 times. when that's done, go to start, run, msconfig and disable all services and startup programs. reboot into normal windows and use all 4 of those programs. depending on how bad your system is, you should be able to purge out all the viruses and malware in 3-5 passes roughly. probably take you a few hours, but saves you the issue of having to format.

Lavasoft produces a program called Ad-Aware
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com
    go directly to downloading it - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Per ... l&tag=top5

    another great program is Spybot
    http://www.safer-networking.org/
Go Directly to downloading it -
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Install both of these and restart your computer, hit F8 (i think this is the one) and select the option to boot your computer into safe mode. this allows you to boot with the bare minimum of background process which means that the virus/spyware will most likely not be loaded. You will know your in safe mode because it will say it in several places on the screen and everything will look like similar to say windows 95 (vga graphics, 800 X 600 etc etc etc).
Once in safemode, run both spybot and Ad-Aware and it should remove most of the spyware and viruses you have on your computer (if not everything, both have limited Anti-Virus technology built in. Mostly anti-trojan stuff)

Once done, reboot your computer (since internet is disabled in safe mode - or it should be, cant remember off the top of my head-) and go to the website, http://www.antivirus.com
Trend Micro (the company that runs this website) offers a free online virus/spyware scanner.

If that works, go out and spend 100 on Norton Internet Security 2007 and stop browsing porn sites until you get better internet safeguards.

EDIT - Ninja Edit for clarity and shit. if you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

EDIT2 - Melena brings up a good point, you will have to do this once or twice to make sure you system is cleaned completely. Although i really dont recommend messing with the msconfig unless you know what your doing.

Reboot into safe mode and turn off system restore before you do any of the above suggestions after you download the programs.

One last program is hijack this.

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.php

Some good programs here. But it's important that you need to be in safe mode without networking and system restore turned off.

IF you're into the mood of paying for stuff, I've found that NIS (internet security) is a huge waste of money. A standard firewall or a router properly setup actually works far greater then the crap that norton supplies.

Spyware Sweeper (runs like 17 bucks at bestbuy in a bright green box) for me seems to be one of the better spyware cleaners on the market, plus thier auto updates seems to work better then other programs.

Also, as far as virus detection programs, nothing in my opinion beats Kapersky, while its lesser known I personally think it detects more (and has the ability of scanning the restore partition) then other clients out there.

The easiest way to fix this though is reformatting your machine, since you said thats not an option, this could be something thats with your machine for a very long time. You need to be through in your scanning and your detection and removal. 1 scan is never enough because you're going to get false postitives in your scanning being that these programs are meant to get around your scans.

The pop ups are reading off of your websearches from your cookies. If you searched recently for internet spyware or virus removal, it was in your cookies and thats where the pop up came from.

It is kind of like getting herpes.. it doesn't go away.

You can use programs to treat the symptoms, but breakouts will "popup" later on you.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Microsoft.

I hope you pirated your copy of windows.

While I agree with you that M$ is the devil however; treated correctly a machine can be brought back to life without repercussions depending on how bad the infection of the malware was.

    Lol

Just because you're not getting a popup at the moment doesn't mean it isn't still there.

Reformat, reinstall, cry, and use a condom next time.

I agree with you, im just saying that in some cases the system can be brought back to life. In the case that we're seeing here,

C:\> Format C: /s looks to be the one answer thats going to save the day.
