AFK, going to your house to play games.
AFK, going to your house to play games.
Go ahead, I have no time for them anyways.
Heh yea, it is probably that design that is getting me, and Samsung I bet has that design copywritten.
How much more is the Sharp than the Samsung? (I'm lazy)
Sharp 42" is 2300 before tax, I got it for 2009 after because of pricematching (thanks to SEARS for being suckers...lol.)
Samsung is 1800 before... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 8086487510 ... but it's 720p, not 1080p.
EDIT: nevermind, here's the other one:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 1658134800
Same price...still no 1080p.
Here's the Sharp, same price, 1080p though.

Sometimes it pays to get the better TV (it looks pretty good too), rather than buy the name (like lolsony.)
Bestbuy's listing is wrong, btw, because they claim samsung's ratio is 10000:1, while sharp's is 1200:1... what the morons are forgetting to mention is that one is a DYNAMIC ratio, and the other isn't... another reason why I don't trust retailers. Always go to the brand's website to check the correct specs.
Wow, that's expensive for what you get Po. You should go to costco/bestbuy, pick up the vizio/sharp/samsung/whatever to test it out, if you don't like it, return it.
AVS also has a nice forum where many many people buy all sorts of LCDs and comment on all aspects of the them. THat may help you as well.

Holy shit HDTV's are dropping fast in price, I bet if I wait 2 months it'll be <$1500.
Wait for Q1 to be over, everything will drop in price.Originally Posted by Po
Yea I just saw your edit too. So you had not linked the correct TV. See I don't know if I want to buy a plasma TV for gaming, I am more apt to LCD than Plasma. Because I have heard after a few years that HD gaming can deplete the plasma and actually make it run out. So I would actually go with the $400 less one for LCD rather than Plasma.
If you sign up for bestbuy's reward zone, you can use their 12% off coupon to make it even cheaper!. However that's still a rip, i'd rather get that new 47" 1080p vizio for 1650 from costco.Originally Posted by Po
The reason you don't want a plasma for a TV that will play games a lot is burn-ins... plasmas are far more vulnerable to it than LCDs, and especially in games where you have a constant menu or stuff like that (FFs, etc.), or like in GoW where you always have a bar showing your ammo, it will eventually burn-in into the screen and will permenantly leave a mark on it.
Sure it'll take some time, but better an LCD than a Plasma, since you won't have that problem with an LCD.
It's all about doing your research online and getting the B&M stores to lower the price according to the pricematching policy that they have (lolSears and CircuitCity do this.)... I believe you can only do this with websites that have a B&M in the same city/area of the store you're trying to buy the TV from, or else they won't pricematch it for you. (I used Frys.com for mine, since there's a Fry's like 2 blocks away from the Sears I bought my TV at.)Originally Posted by Semitry

you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p
anything is a upgrade from standard def 480i =P
p.s. to the poster that wanted a surround sound set of speakers
http://www.paradigm.com/
get the set that fits your needs/budget and a 5.1/7.1 reciever that fits your needs
no highs?, no lows? must be Bose
There is a difference between 720p and 1080p... there's virtually no different between 720p and 1080i though...Originally Posted by levish
And once more PS3 games come out in 1080p, you will surely feel the difference.
And as far as that link you provided about the surround system..there are about a million products there... what am I looking for exactly? (I don't need a surround system with a DVD attached since I already got more than one... so I just want the speakers by themselves with the bass, without the dvd crap.)
PS3 games in 1080p? People don't still believe that do they? Anyways, 1080p is extremely noticeable if the source has that option. Usually a higher end PC.Originally Posted by Exoduso

But anyways, only thing that can play 1080p right now are blurays and HD-DVDs, so there really is no point in having it other than being ready for whenever it is available (the most TV channels that broadcast in HD have right now is 720p/1080i.. and for TV, I prefer 720p really -- it looks better.)
Yea see that is what I was thinking. I am no TV guru and I don't know if I would notice the difference between a Samsung and a Vizio. And I could get a 40 inch LCD Vizio for a lot less than the same size Sharp and/or Samsung.Originally Posted by Semitry
I just wish I could get these TVs at somewhere other than CostCo/Sams Club, since they only take cash and you need a membership to do it right?
They also take American Express (costco), and Discover (Sam's club). Yes you need a membership, but it's only like 40 dollars for the year. Or you can ask someone and bum theirs. BTW, what are your sources? 360? cable box? PC? ...Originally Posted by Po
Well I have a Psyclone thing that hooks up my 360, PS2, Wii and Dvd player. So the only thing I have going into the tv itself is the Component Cable for the Psyclone, and then an HDMI for my cable.
Just be sure your TV has a HDMI port (mulitple HDMI ports = brownie points)
HDMI will become the norm within 0.5-1 year, weird thing is TV technology is moving so fast @_@;
If you really want a sweet over the top HD/HDMI/1080p/washes Your Laundry/Gives you Hand-Blow Jobs TV's, wait till the Summer
Always great sales going on for HDTV's.
That is how I got a 61" Sony HDTV for 2k (almost 2 years old now)
[Gonna Upgrade to a 50 flat LCD soon for my room]
Shitty Grainy Pic (Cell-Phone Camera) I know, but meh:
