Fun =/= Autodrive; I hated FFXIIs battle system the most.

I only put the annoying stuff on auto... mainly cures, haste, protect, and attack the leader's target, which I target.

Everything else I do myself, or it just becomes an automated battle system where you can't die if you know how to pick your spots, which is boring.

I gotta say though, this playthrough i'm only playing with 3 main characters, and everything is so much easier when you have a group at level 32 for a boss fight, instead of all 6 at level 25...

I thought it was awesome for the most part. Character was almost always doing the obvious action I wanted him to do, without me inputing a command. Next step is to plug the controller directly in my brain.

And for hard fight, movement actually added a lot to the battle, since you have to deal with AoE, as well as the conventional skill selection, to keep your character alive. In previous FF, you could just spam X, and cure once in a while to beat the whole game, not in this one.

Right, in this one you just have to move the left analog stick around to beat the game.

the best thing about the gambit system was the fact that you could turn it off. seriously if your complaining about how the gambit system makes it so the game plays itself turn it off then. Personally I liked the gambit system alot because it minimized the amount of repititve work needed to be done.

FF12 was fun I just wish they made it a little harder(story wise), and a little longer. the Hunts were great, but some of the conditions required to get them to pop were rediculous. I spent 5 hours trying to be sure I cleared out the Feywood to pop KB and had no luck.

I dont know, i just wanted more world wife influence. All we did was get a go at two kingdoms, on one continent. I wanted to see the rest of the world, find out what the other nations were doing. Actually save the world, not just a stupid small town.

    Here, I'll predict the future.

SE makes their announcement, makes fanboys happy, makes everyone else angry. We go into a big huge argument about why so and so Final Fantasy is better than this one, and then someone posts a picture that is so funny this topic derails itself to death.

It's true in dungeon against most worthless enemy, it's not true against boss unless you are powerleveled. That's like saying a turbo controller can beat FF7 or FF8 with the right junction/materia

At first I was a little unsure about the gambit system. I love it now, though. I don't feel like the lack of pushing X a million times takes me out of the game or anything like that. If you do, just turn all gambits off. If you do that though, you probably want to play with the battle speed set to Wait. I tried that for a while, but when you're walking around the world, you're continuously assaulted by mobs every 5 steps.

Why push X to bring up the menu, push it again for attack, use the dpad to pick your target, and push X a fourth time just for one attack? Seriously, why bother with that shit?

Similarly, battles in this game are very fast paced, and the Menu isn't exactly a breeze to navigate; there are no macros like in FFXI. Why die a thousand times because while I wanted to fire off a cure at 50%, that mob owned my whole party while I was fucking with menus? Why fuck with a long list of items for stat cures? Gambits take care of it all.

It's such that the main focus of strategy in the game is not winning each individual battle, but programming the most efficient gambits you can for 90% of running around, and then adjusting them effectively for boss fights. And it's pretty engaging, really. I've had more fun with the battle system of this game than any FF before.
