Today, I was on the Selbina-Mhaura ferry, and I managed to claim Silverhook. When he was down to 50%, I suddenly crashed to desktop, and thought, "OMG I'M BEING ATTACKED!"

I pray that all the people trying to figure out what it is don't actually figure it out and other methods, you opened a pandora's box of coding problems, of which several other varieties can possibly come through.

Though if its easy to patch (like you hinted at) it shouldn't be a major problem, but I really would hate to see RMT with this.

Well done, Taj, very well done.

The intentional DC of "innocent" players wasn't very cool, but the DC of RMTs was the best incident of a successful hack that I have ever read/heard about. It's a sad state of affairs when one single player does more to hinder RMT's ability to make gil than an entire company. The RMT disconnects will give me warm and fuzzy feelings all day.

I also commend you on the way you handled everything when confronted by the GM. Many people in your shoes would have just cursed out the GM and not told him anything, resulting in a permanent ban. I do hope SE doesn't permanently ban you as that would not be smart on their part. You found an exploit that their dev and qa teams did not find, you gave them information on what you did to take advantage of the exploit, and you pay them money each month for your account. It's as if they are getting a free tester. :D They really should consider offering you a part-time job testing their client and server code.

I am on fairy as well, and if you find a similar exploit in the future, I'm sure many of us on fairy would love to see the RMTs experience a mass DC (well, except for the &$@%ing lazy-ass gil buyers who allow RMT to control the game... I'm sure THEY don't want RMT to DC... but I digress).
