Important vista question

Ok so, I have copy of windows vista ultimate as soon as PC club has their stock (bought a new pc and it came with the standard uppgrade free, 50$ for ultimate edition)

But recently <_< as in like 15 minutes ago, i heard about the piracy cockblocks on windows vista. Im not sure how in depth these are, but id like to know if i should just sell my copy of vista and stay on xp if im not gonna be able to torrent or download a song thats stuck in my head ever again =/

Why not torrent a copy of vista / find a reg code and install it so you have a dual boot system? [i read recently that installing a vista upgrade deactivates your xp code though, so im not sure if you are using an upgrade thing for that and what not]

If you like the way it works though, then keep the one you are getting. A word to the wise though, my freind installed vista for a bit and it wouldnt read any disc not burnt in vista

Ive never heard of any piracy issues (aside from the Vista OS itself) where did you hear this? Ive yet to have a problem with my copy. Unless its an actual MS product (Vista, Office, etc) there isnt any way they can track piracy. Say you install Photoshop, the OS doesnt know anything about its registration scheme and what it allows, thats up to Adobe to figure out. If anything because of Vista's tighter security, it will be harder to track privacy.

In light of recent goverment legal actions because of the rumors that MS spys on us, the government has intervened and made sure that this doesnt happen with Vista. There are really no back doors in Vista, so it's pretty secure, even from Bill himself.

Ofcourse, if youre trying to use a pirated copy of Vista or Office (2007 only probably), they changed their registration scheme and the way they intergrated the genuine protection, so it's anyones guess on that one.

If there's one piece of computer software that I will always buy/never pirate, it's the actual OS itself. That's just stupid. =\

As for your question, I haven't heard anything about, and probably wouldn't worry about it. I heard the PS3 cooks you dinner, too (LOL IT CAN IF YOU PUT YOUR FOOD ON IT).

I've used a pirated copy of XP since like the second month it came out w/ no problems.
Not saying it would be the same way for Vista.

Yeah, pirated XPs are a joke, everything still works except for manual updates. It's even more lolable that you can change the key at any time.

I registered one of my older XPs with a deactivated VLK, it still installed fine, but it was a known pirated key, so updates wouldnt work. But, as long as you find a real key (which is easy, and can be taken from any version of XP: home, pro, sp1, sp2, etc), you can change it at any time with this. http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

Basiclly, if you know someone with a real copy, just use this program, copy the key, go to your machine, run that, and put the key in. Then you have a real copy.

I thought that once keys are registered, they are flagged and are unable to be used again by another PC?

Not on XP, i have a windows XP pro disc + office disc that a friend burnt me, with a reg code on it that i've used on multiple PCs.

Also, a friend i know irl pirated vista and got a pirated key, it all worked, but it he said he still preferred xp for the time being. (Although he said the interface was gorgeous.)

I found out that i can d/l a vista copy direct from the site instead of going in and picking one up(for free), so i think im gonna try to d/l it and go in for my ultimate so i score a sellable copy. Anyways, i cannot for the life of me figure out where the free download shitter if you had xp after a certain date thing is on the site so im thinkin the girl i talked to was a megaliar cause obv girls cant use computers

kinda off topic, but interesting to know. supposedly all the dvd's vista comes on are the same, it's just when you enter in the registration code that it pulls the specific version. if this is the case, i'm just waiting for people to buy there $200 vista ultimate.

No, this only holds true for MSDN and RTM copys. These copys can only be obtained through a partnership with Microsoft and are free (aside from the partnership cost). Any copy the average joe buys will be that version only.

Between the DRM crap and driver and application incompatability, it really doesn't make much sense to be an eary adopter of Vista. I'd wait a while and stick with XP for the time being.
