This is what happens when you are lazy and don't clean your mats properly. Lost of schools just like wetting a mop with water and cleaning them. You need to disinfect them.

But erm.. the mat had to get dirty somehow?

Maybe you got the mat clean so the next 2 people don't get infected, but what about the poor guy who wrestled the guy that got the mat dirty and got herpes for life?

HSV survives outside the body for seconds, it requires body temperature and moisture to survive, even if you bleed on to a mat it would have to be heated for HSV to transmit to anyone else who touched the blood.
that's why HSV is nearly always transmitted by body contact.
it is possible to get HSV without touching another person, but very rare because it dies so quickly in unfavorable conditions.

btw niro HSV is extremely common because it spreads so easily, you probably have it because a billion or more other people do and like influenza it's very hard to stop, it's generally a fairly harmless virus too - otherwise it wouldn't be so widespread.
using zovirax is highly effective in preventing cold sores but you'd have to check with a doctor if it prevents asymptomatic shedding, zovirax is a relatively new treatment and there might soon be a cure for herpes (it's easy to kill outside of the nervous system, killing it within might be challenging).

edit: people with skin diseases just shouldn't wrestle, anyone who is worried about catching anything should cover their skin entirely in petroleum jelly :D

like i said, i havent gotten a cold sore in years, last one i remember getting was when i was in middle school, deathly ill, and~ :loop:: cold sore there just to make it worse

my dad used to give me some stuff i think is called Lysine whenever i got one, dunno what it does if anything lol

EVERYTIME I get a cold (or any other virus that affects my nose) I get cold sores on my nose around the nostrils. Pisses me off soo much because they take like a week to dissapear. Thank God for polysporin. >_>;
