    Quick Stupid Ouryu Question.

    People are telling me two different things, and Wiki doesn't give a definate answer so I figured I'd ask here.

    To access uncapped Ouryu, what CoP mission do you have to have beaten?

    Some are telling me you only need Riverne AO1 access, others are saying you have to have beaten Ouryu on the CoP mission to get in.

    I'm probably just overlooking it somewhere, feel free to lock this thread once the answer has been given.

    Hopefully newbie forum has the answers.

    I'm pretty sure you just need to have access to the capped Ouryu BC. You don't have to have it beaten but you need to be able to enter it.

    This sounds correct, but for Christ's sake just complete CoP and don't worry about it. CoP's been out how long? It's time to get your ring, so that you can wish you had a different one every other week.

    I've had my lolsattva ring forever and a day now.

    It's just others we plan on bringing aren't that far along in it. Like our BRD who got to 75 in a month and barely has Sky, but we take him any ways cause he's a bard and I need someone to whore out for my merits so don't look down on me for it.

    Adding to this, i heard that you can/cannot use Mistmelts on uncapped Ouyru. Can someone comment on this?

    You can, but we just nuke in the air/sleep on the ground anyway. So er...we don't want him to land

    Only need Riverne access.

    It seems to be more beneficial to keep Ouryu airborne, as he doesn't use Terrorga (and it seems to limit his ability to cast Breakga as well, or remove it entirely). Of course, fighting him this way requires an army of BLM.

    Only need Riverne access. Also, Mistmelts work on any CoP wyrm, they're just usually not worth using.

    Yes we plan to ES/Sleep on the ground and Nuke in the air. Assuming we get the turn out we're counting on.

    Another quick question, he is Earth based but I everyone says to nuke him with Ice? I asked on KI, but don't necessairly trust the answers.

    That's correct. Ice magic tends to be the most "reliable" of all the elements because mages will typically nuke using an Ice or Aquilo's Staff, which adds INT (power) and elemental skill (accuracy). Ouryu himself will also only resist Thunder and Earth magic.

    Ice will generally outperform Wind on Ouryu because of the combination of staff usage and most Ice spells being on a higher tier than Wind.

    Yes, he's earth based. My guess is that the extra damage and lower resistance from wind weakness doesn't outdo the base damage of Blizzard and the extra ele skill on Aquilo's, but I haven't done Ouryu on BLM, so I have no experience with it.

    That's pretty much what I thought, however, since the capped fight for this allows people to use Freeze on Ouryu, I wasn't sure if people were just thinking about the capped fight or if it still would apply to the uncapped for the reasons listed above.

    I've found it helped speed up our runs if I use elemental Ninjutsu to debuff Ouryu in the air. I unlocked Huton: San (weakens to Ice) and I chain that with Huton: Ni while it's flying. I also stick Doton: Ni on him first to help the BRDs land Ice Threnody. An unresisted BLM is a happy BLM.

    About the radius of Breakga (which seems to have longer-than-normal range than most other -ga magic).

    Breakga is 15' I think, as is slow-ga and most other ga enfeebles. Nuke-gas are 10' or so.

    Personally I throw in random Tornado II's so that the general ice spam lands a tad more often. That and I like the animation. :D

    NIN/BRD w/ Earth Resist set makes this fight even more of a joke then it usually is
