I have a lot of experience with abuse.
First of all.. don't hate on your dad or report him unless you think you're in some sort of danger of being harmed.
Abuse is a cycle and this was probably the way he was raised. Not saying that is ok and that he isn't a piece of shit, however he is just sick. Kind of like if your dad had cancer you wouldn't hate him.. Well this sickness is mental. IT IS STILL HIS FAULT, but it isn't that simple.. Maybe people in the last few generations didn't have options they do today and therapy for the older generation was unheard of and taking any was a sign of weakness and people would think you were fucked up.
You have choices. There is a point of growing up when we have to decide if the past is going to determine our future.
What type of person do you want to be when you grow up?
Once you decide that you need to look at what prevents you from being that. Some people try to simply will their way by not letting the past control them and "put it all behind them" and that works for some. It is better to deeply analyze your past and what happened to you and come to terms with this.
This may require some long term therapy (like 4 years) but it is totally worth it. I'm not talking about inpatient in a hospital, just find a good qualified person to go talk to every week or two. The last thing you want is to have your view on life skewed or be unrealistic because of abuse. Remember.. it may not make sense right now but you will most likely treat your kids the exact same way no matter how many times now you may say that you won't.
People who engage in therapy at not sick and it takes a very healthy person to care about their emotional wellbeing. Don't fool yourself into thinking you can just read a few self-help books and cure yourself cause you can't. Part of the sickness of abuse is that the victims and perpetrators can't accuracy depict reality and they need an expert to help them through that.
