    Valkyrie Profile 2

Another game from SquareEnix that doesn't fail to impress.

I never played the original for Playstation but even so, I don't feel like I can't understand the storyline.

Final Fantasy XII and Valkyrie Profile are quite similar when I think about it as they have their own kind of Quickenings but are much easier to activate. The main character, Alicia, has a personality like Penelo but is in a position like Ashe.

I haven't completed the game yet but it's hard at times to put down the controller. Here are some screenshots from the game itself (the graphics are pretty close)

Has anyone else experienced this amazing video game?

I was so hyped up for VP2, but it just ended up being one of the biggest gaming dissapointments I've ever played, along with FF12.

I got it for christmas, and I love the game. I did stop playing once the storyline of xenosaga 3 pulled me in. But once I beat that, I am back into VP2.

I also have never played the first one, and this one takes place before it anyways, so you should be fine with the storyline. I personally love the battle system in the game. I am only like 10 hours in, but I like the storyline so far. I just have a feeling that this won't be a lengthy game.

I liked the game at first but I sort of gave up on it about half way through. I didnt really like the batle system in this game. The original had a more fun style while this one tries to take control of the 3d environment, but just makes it a little complicated.
The boss fights are also extremely hard compared to the normal mobs. I could exp for hours on the mobs around the boss but then get thrown down in a few hits by the bosses. As much as I like a challange this coupled with the battle system made me put it down.

I agree, I like this battle system better than FF12's because when you get high enough and don't really have to rely on anything other attacking, it got repetitive and boring.

I thought the story was quite bland until Chapter 3 where things picked up and really sucked me in. But like you thought, it isn't really a long game. @ 42 hours and I believe I am close to the end (Tower of Lezard).

Working on my second run through right now. I liked it the first time alot but going back and actually trying for the decent Einjerar instead of whatever comes my way is alot more benefitial and makes the game that much better when you have enemies that are even harder each run through.

I still haven't completed the Seraphic Gate but I can tell you this about the bosses. If you can't beat them then you're definatly not doing something right. Some of the bosses you need to change their attacks ala spells or heals and hope for the best. Otherwise you need to have someone set to sacrafice with a shiton of health. Most of the bosses have a pretty standard strategy or don't hit that hard. The latter bosses tend to have annoying cheap attacks but the range is small. The only boss that I think gave me trouble was the black dragon. Pain in the ass.

Either way I really enjoyed the game and was pretty awesome

I wouldn't play VP2 without playing VP1, you wouldn't understand half the stuff going on heh.

I never finished VP2, but beat VP1... reason being is, I just thought VP2 was WAY too much work... They make you level up all the einherjar, yet you have to figure out when the best times to let them go is, and that just frustrated me. Also, the fact you have to break almost every single mob a million times in order to get 20+ of a specific item they drop so you can synth it for all your party members, or you will get owned at the next dungeon. And thirdy, the fact you have to figure out a way to break each mob in the most retarded place on their bodies in order to make them drop an acc. so you can have all the abilities.

It just seemed like WAAAAAAAY too much work, i'd rather stick to any other RPG the PS2 has to offer than play through this one.

    VP1 was great though.

Also, VP2 is a prequel to VP1, so many of the places you visit in VP2 have already been introduced in VP1.

Last time I saw a PS1 copy of Valkyrie Profile no eBay it was like $150. :/ But if you don't wanna shell out that kind of money to play a classic and if you happen to have a PSP, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is the same game.

I got my copy of VP off a newsgroup. Then I just ran a PSX emulator (ePSXe) and played through it to refresh myself before this one came out.

Normally I would love the amount of work that VP2 makes you do... but times have changed. When I used to play videogames it was to kill time. But now cause life is busy I don't want to have to work that hard in my leisure time too.

What work? seriously i played through the game on my first try without XPing, same goes for VP1. All I did was played through at the normal flow... use your brain and the game is easy... UNDERSTAND how to BREAK off certain parts of bosses.

I'm the kind of gamer who trys to get everything. I didn't like having to break off parts of mobs to synth weapons. The battle system while new and original didn't click with me. The bosses were annoying. I love the game but its more a summer fling for me than a game I can pick up while going to school and working.

In my very short amount of leisure time (till Summer) I need a game that is easy to pickup, and play.

i got vp2 1 week after jp release didnt understand much of it then waited for US i beat vp2......bosses are easy if you know how to save your energy bar.... just save enough for 1 or 2 dash dont spam buttons XD just use enough to create 100...the thing about vp2 is that is sequel not PRE vp1 but telling you more would ruin the ending.

btw the archer girl in the forest own....i think is called ultima.....or something like that...the history saids she created the living armors and she have very powerfull attacks at start.

another thing dont get used to main characters use the ones you get from purify the weapons dont worry about having mages too..... just get some archers or alicia have alicia use Cure or the archers you can go trougth the game with 2 archers and 2 meeles with no problems creating a shit load of purple gems to have more attacks since some bow attacks(character based) do a lot of hits.

other important thing is......the only person who can get 100 TP in the 3 souls crush to be able to get a 4 is rufus but when he gets his second soul crush and some hidden character wich i wont tell another advise is dont release characters until you get in some hidden part of the game

the bad thing about VP2 is you cant whore off guts like VP1 here you get an ability is called survival if i remember well that when you get killed once per battle it gets you to 10 hp and you survive now dont get fooled by such BS is a useless ability lets say your alicia haves 30hp and survival equiped, a monster does some 3 fold attack and kills you with the first one you use the ability but will still kill you with the 2 hit since is a 3 fold........just pump your characters with tougthness(double your hp in battle).

and play vp1 if you want to understand some parts of vp2 like the almost ending...... and why lezard is there.

This is false. Yes, the game takes place before VP1, however it is not a prequel. This is due to the fact that both Lezard and Creator Lenneth have traveled through time. So in reality, the events of VP1 had to take place (Ending A version, where Lenneth recreates the world, and Lezard sacrifices the Philosopher's Stone to retain his memories) in order for VP2 to actually occur. So yes, in the beginning it appears as a prequel, but in reality it is a sequel.

I've seen all 3 endings in VP1... I guess I forgot that part heh, it's been quite a while.

Thanks for that though. Like I said, I didn't really get into VP1 and stopped in the middle of chapter 3.
