    Videogame rock bands

I'm sure a lot of people here know about The Minibosses and The Black Mages. I want to find more good bands like this that can put some of the really great game music to the sound of some good guitars and great percussion.

Here's another one I know of, The Megas. An indie rock band that plays Megaman 2 songs and writes lyrics. Pretty cool.

What I'm really looking for is if there's any bands that play Megaman X or Castlevania Symphony of the Night songs, since those 2 games had such awesome soundtracks. Anybody know?

That's actually pretty cool, this coming from a guy who isn't a very big fan of electronic or techno music.

HORSE the Band doesn't play video game music, but music about video games. Cutsman is about a Megaman character (I think, I'm not into Megaman lol)

I think the Minibosses have some songs from Megaman. You might want to check out the Oneups. Even though they broke up, they played some quality stuff.

    For Castlevania, go for goat

I've seen live performances of japanese rock groups(taped on video) and I'm not impressed.

Seen a more ecstatic crowd at funerals.

Maybe see some local bands? and you'll stop touching yourself over these jp rock bands lol

The Minobosses are cool, and I love the Black Mages. Also there's a small JP group called "The Star Onions" who covered FFXI songs [did an a capella gospel version of Jeuno theme that was surprisingly good]

Only the Black Mages are Japanese of all the bands listed in this thread.

Japanese concerts in general don't feature wild crowds. They're more focused on enjoying the quality of the performance. It's really rare that you'll see a crowd get into it like at an American concert.

Yeaaahhhh I discovered them not too long ago. I made a thread about them too lol. My favorite tune by them is Kazham. ;3

I also like Awakening, and think it should replace the current in-game version lol.

OCRemix has some good remixes of various video game music. Some of the Symphony of the Night remixes tracks are phenomenal [and some of them make you weep for bastardizing your favorite song, but there's more good than bad at that site]

And Mysterio: Different cultures man, Japanese dance clubs usually have people standing around, They don't dance/rock/mosh like Americans do, The most riled up I've seen them is at a Gackt concert and that was still tame compared to the quietest concert of a NA band like tool or something. Doesn't make the music/musicians any better or worse.

Minibosses are a win. They do a Zelda remix which is very nice ;3

You know, I'd argue there's as much bad as good if you go back. Since their standards went up in the last year or two the crappy remixes have been far more limited. If you see it in the last two-three years or so, it'll be decent at 'worst', but towards the beginning of the site's history, it's a lot more of a crapshoot.

It's just that the good is a hell of a lot more memorable. =) Just don't look for stuff which sounds just like the base track.

I LOVE OC Remix. Their Chrono Trigger/Cross and Metal Gear Solid remixes are my favorite. I also love the Zelda ones. They have some really hot stuff on that site.

I really wish I could find a band that does Mega Man X (1) songs. Some of the stage music in that game would make the perfect Speedmetal J-Rock. Think Spark Mandrill stage, Storm Eagle stage, or Flame Mammoth stage.

You probably have to search the major video game remix sites by game for that. I haven't found a band that does any Mega Man songs yet.

You might want to try here though, http://dod.vgmix.com/

yng.malm has a couple songs that are kinda video-game'ish. 7th sign is like dragon warrior music.. and i think symphony x has a couple things that sound like things.
