Face lashes, thats way harsh. I assume that has the potential to disfigure ones face...
>_> They face lashings, like you face a jury. Not lashings of the face.

I find it interesting that they have a "religious police" force. I wonder if its a seperate entity from the general police force.
I think this is what our forefathers had in mind when they were talking about separation of church and state, not the bullshit people come up with today.
We are so spoiled![]()
Wow...
Being a religious police officer must be fucking awesome.
<3 abuse of power
It's part of there law. i have no negative feelings at the punishment handed out.
Opinion time: Do you think the punishment fits the crime?Originally Posted by Ace-o-fire

You guys seem to pass it off as "Bah, it's their religion". It mentionned it's foreigners condemned, not locals. I'm guessing they arent islamic or else it wouldnt have made news.
Basicly, the religious police enforces itself on peoples who dont even have that belief.
Kinda like flogging tourists for not conforming.
Kinda? certainly is, lolOriginally Posted by Drinhkinn
At what point should a tourist conform though? I remember and incident awhile back with a tourist in an asian country who spit gum out on the street. It just so hapens that that was against their laws so he got whipped with sticks or something like that.Originally Posted by Drinhkinn
I dont think that what they did was against the federal (if you can call it tha) law, but their religious law. I may be thinking of things solely through the eyes of an American who was raised on seperation of church and state, but it doesnt make sen to me.

If you can't conform to the laws and customs of another country, don't fucking go there. Traveling not a game, it's not some god-given right. It's going to another place with another group of real people with their own very real way of life. Some people come to find this out the hard way.Originally Posted by Intense
Don't get me wrong; in no way shape or form and I condoning the fucking idiocy that is Sharia law, but people need to realize that not everywhere they are is the place they are used to. The article doesn't mention where the 'foreigners' came from, but apparently where it is doesn't have strict Islamic laws.
hurray for ambiguity.Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which it bans alcohol and meetings between unrelated men and women.
