Ok, so a good friend of mine, Kirsteena on Bahamut, got hacked this weekend. She lost 9m in gil, a nobles and some other stuff I can't recall atm.

Tried calling a GM, but they said they couldn't do anything. Tried a SGM, who said they couldn't do anything. Tried phoning, and they said her CPU must be at fault. (She does cpu scans frequently and did not have any viruses/keyloggers etc before or after the incident)

Today when I saw her in game I noted an odd bazaar comment. Guess the bastards left a mark behind, huh?

I changed the password two weeks ago, I have since changed it. My b/f (who knows a fair bit about computers, unlike me) has done a thorough investigation of my machine, we can't find any keylogger or anything.

There is one other option it could be - Anjiro. Another piece of shit botter who also got banned in the last round. I know a long time ago he had my id, but I since changed password (several times). This is not a random person by that comment, it is someone who knows me.

There are a myriad of ways to get someone's account information without using a Keylogger, several of which involve assistance from Square-Enix themselves. Have her call PlayOnline and see if anyone requested to have her password reset recently.

Nothing about what was taken, and what got left behind makes much sense. They left behind all her HQ staves, but jacked a pair of Leaping Boots.

I don't really care about much apart from the noble's and that is pure sentimental value. They left all my main job gear (including full hq staves, enfeebling earring, mahatma gear etc) and took some crap.

Call them again right now, and just ask them if someone requested to have your password reset. It won't help with anything, but it'll A) establish they are at fault for resetting your password for an unauthorized person B) the person who hacked you was someone who used to have your PlayOnline ID, regardless of if you have since changed your password.

Basically, If they go into Service & Support and write down the information there, it's everything they need to reset your password. I would suggest you change your personal information (Address, Phone Number, Credit Card) before they do it again.

If it wasn't you (obviously), then the privacy agreement means they can't tell you anything about who did it, even if they are able to prove it themselves. They actually tell you to file a police report (with the real police) for online identity fraud. It's kinda hard to get the police motivated on "They stole my gil!", but it is fraud and if you file a report SE can divulge the information to the police...supposedly.
