I got the lags. No idea why.

I get around 4-5fps in all locations. I have absolutely no idea why its happening, I've cleared out all my drivers from previous video cards.

    I have a
    nvidia7800gs w/ 256mb ram
    p4 3.0ghz
    512ram

I've tried a plethora of different driver sets, but nothing seems to be working.

1st off, your frame rate sucks. "Lag" refers to connection speed.

While running, if you play windowed, CTL+ALT+DEL and close any processes not relating to FF. Most common to lag you are antivirus and the like. anything that takes up processor cycles [FFXI uses minimal graphic card resources]

once you found it, Remove it and you'll be fine.

I've taken out anything other than vital system functions, don't run an antivirus or a firewall. I'd think it was just a FFxi only problem, but I have problems running most things that use an abnormal amount of graphics. Even Flash's slow down. Its one of the reasons I rarely use somepage any more....

what's your resolution at? maybe it's set too high.

Make sure you don't have graphic-demanding options enabled in the FFXI options (uncompressed textures, mip mapping etc.)

check your heat sinks / fans for mass amounts of dust, my comp was down to 4-5 fps everywhere, cleaned the shit out and now im getting 30 fps in large scale battles again ;p

My problem was in my CPU heatsink.

To piggy back onto the dust on heatsink issues

    http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html

This is Speed Fan, a program that'll let you view your temperature and see if there are any cooling issues. Sometimes lowered FPS is due to dust around fans and excessive heat on the video card. More dust on the card, the less FPS you'll get.

    don't run an antivirus
Don't run one at all, or turn it off while playing? That could cause your problem also.

Turn off shadows and weather. Earth weather fuks me up in windower mode

As said before make sure your pc is being bombed by 100 background programs (Anti-virus, adaware, spyboy, itunes, aim, and so on).

If none of that works, try reformating your HDD or replacing it. If FFXI can't read the files quick enough from your HD it could bring up problems (I would think).

Yeah, I just did that, and I got a nice little boost in the FPS. Exp PT's are playable again. I think I need a new fan or just some way to lower the temp my system is running at.
