    Another random USB issue.

This has been a persistent problem for the past 5 years for me...it comes and goes.

On FPS games, and sometimes FFXI, when i move my USB mouse, the action on the screen takes place like 2 seconds later, or is VERY delayed.

It started happening again after i downloaded new ATI drivers for my video card...i had to downgrade to may 2006 just to get rid of the problem.

    Why does this happen?

start->run->eventvwr.msc - are there any USB or driver-related warnings?

Is the mouse wired or wireless?

If it happens to be wireless, try popping in a wired one.

If it's wireless, try changing the batteries for the mouse

Also, it can't hurt to do a system restore to the point before you installed the driver. This would save you some time if it is indeed the batteries for a wireless mouse or if it is a driver conflict

it's a wired mouse. i wouldnt use a wireless mouse for FPS games.

gonna try out that eventvwr.msc thing

    *EDIT*

went to the event viewer, no USB related issues at all.

couple of things off the top of my head:

    - the mouse is dying on you. I'm assuming it's an optical mouse, is the LED underneath responsive (i.e. does it light up) when it's frozen? have you tried another mouse in the same port?

    - the USB port (or host controller) is bad, for whatever reason. have you tried a PS/2 mouse?

    - the USB host controller and something else are sharing the same IRQ. While IRQ sharing shouldn't be an issue, it can be at times, such as when my sound card and video card were on the same IRQ. That was bad juju. Start->Run-> devmgmt.msc and check what IRQ (under the "Resources" tab) your ATI card and your "Standard something-or-other Controllers" are using.

does it with 3 different USB mice i have

PS/2 mice DO NOT have this problem, just tested it

USB host controler dosent share anything with my ATI card. I've also tried plugging it into the other two USB hub controllers, one of them has its own IRQ, and it still lags behind. Q_Q

It was doing it really bad in Serious Sam 2. I lowered my resolution/quality settings, and it fixed it up a bit, however, there's still a very small, annoying delay Q_Q

ati is known for horribly shitty drivers of shit

probably something to do with having hardware render the mouse cursur (idk what your fps do for mouse cursurs but ffxi you can turn off that option>.>)

then go buy and nvidia card and live the joy of not having an ATI card :D

Yeah. Tweaked for better performance across the board. According to them, the drivers you get from the manufacturers are shit. http://www.omegadrivers.net
