If the Illumina (Lightbringer) is like in the original game, it consumes MP for a 100% critical hit. If you have no MP or are using the offering, it criticals only at the normal rate. I forget how much MP it uses up though, and I have yet to play this version so I don't know if it does the same thing here.

Almost all the game mechanics (except for glaring bugs/glitches like the Evasion stat) are unchanged.

Even a lot of the old bugs still remain, like Gau's broken Tonberry Rage

I used an offering on Cyan with Strato (Murakumo in this version) and the damage was low, even when I used Bushido. I took it off and the damage went up, so no offerings for Cyan since it makes his Bushido attacks weaker. Sabin is a good pick to use it, so is Shadow. I even used to give to Umaro in the SNES days.
I still don't understand why the Offering kills the damage on some weapons. I usually give it to Sabin since he more often than not has the highest STR and attack of any characters, otherwise it goes to whoever is dual wielding Ultima Weapon and Lightbringer. :D

You're thinking of the Runic Blade, not sure what it was renamed to. The Illumina(Lightbringer) is nearly the same as the Ragnarok except higher stat boosts and additional effect of Holy instead of Flare.

It's so goofy with how long I've played the SNES version and how used to the old names; now mixing names of items from the SNES with this new translation. xD

Offering cuts your damage in half.

Some weapons, such as the Atm--er, Ultima Weapon, have special properties that add additional damage onto its original damage. For example, Ultima Weapon calculates your level, max and current HP and turn it into some "additional damage." This additional damage is present at all times, and isn't reduced by the offering. (At least that's how I understand it to work.)

Also, btw, magic usually is a better stat to raise for Sabin <.<

Actually, the Illumina does have the MP-drain for 100% critical property.

Ok, since I never learned about it back in the 90s, what is this evasion bug I keep hearing about?

The evade bug was that your magic evasion counted as a check for both physical and magical attacks. Having magic evade at 128% basically made your character like Kekfa at Thamasa: invincible to everything.

This also had the side effect of making Blind do absolutely nothing except give your character a cool set of shades.

Ok, mind is fried, what the hell is the name of the knife you trade at the coliseum to get shadow back. Also for those who got the 4 new espers, what are the quests. I know leviathan is taking the ferry from s. figaro to nikeah, and already got wtfpwned by him. The other 3 I haven't figured out yet.

In FFVI Advance it's called Ichigeki. You find it in the cave on the Veldt where you fight King Behemoth to save Shadow (if you waited for him on the Floating Continent.)

To get Gilgamesh, you need 500,000 gil. Go to the Auction House in Jidoor, and wait for the Excalipoor to go up on auction. But it for 500,000 gil, and go bet it at the Coliseum. You'll fight a weak monster, and get a Merit Award as a prize, then Gilgamesh comes out to challenge you. You can use your whole party to fight Gilgamesh. He's also pretty tough, be careful.

To get Cactaur magicite, talk to a blonde thief (the guys with the eyepatches) in Maranda, he'll talk about cactaurs. Go kill 10 cactaurs, and walk to the southwest corner of the desert south of Maranda, Gigantaur shows up. Kill him, it's kinda hard. The only attack he uses is 1000 needles, and he has the classic Cactaur evasion. Stuff like Blitz and Tools and Lore reach him no problem. When his HP reaches zero, he'll cast 1000 needles like 10 times in a row before he dies.

I don't have him yet, but I'm told Diabolos is found in the Dragon's Den.

Oh I know, that's what I'm hitting next, just wanted to max his STR first since it was already ridiculously high :D

Really? I don't think I've ever seen that happen out of my dozen+ playthroughs, maybe Offering/Master's Scroll kills it? ¯\(O_o)/¯ Or maybe I've just never noticed it. . . xD

While we're on the topic of bugs and changes, does anyone know if Rippler still fucks over Shadow's Interceptor?

EDIT: Also, the drum or whatever the hell it is on "Searching For Friends" (WoR's music after you get Falcon) is annoying as all hell. Didn't have a problem with the music until that.

It does. Offering disables critical hits and random magic.

Finally beat Gigantaur. So many r2's cast due to knockdown.

I noticed it now, I just always paired Illumina/Atma Weapon with Genji Glove and Offering in the past. lol

I'm having a hell of a time getting Economizers in the GBA version, never recalled them being so damn hard in the SNES to get. :/ Steal from birds in Phoenix Cave or drop off of Brontotaurs in the dinosaur forest north of the Veldt.

Rare steals are always a 1/8 chance after the mathematical formula to determine successful steal % I found it somewhere, I should dig it up again.

And here's another thing, has anybody bet a Megalixir at the Coliseum and beaten Sigfried? If I do that and get the Tintinabar, then bet that, I'll have 4 EXP eggs. But he keeps laying down Hyperdrive which hits for 7000 even with over 100% physical and magical evasion. Any advice?

For anyone whose uncursed the shield, do you know if you have to get exp from the fight? I've had the shield pretty much equipped the second I got locke, which meant also going through the fanatics tower, cactaur killing, etc, and still haven't unlocked it yet. I'm wondering though if i haven't killed as much as i know I have since every fight in the fanatics tower gives ap but no exp.

Any victorious battle counts. A good way to unlock it is to go to the Solitary Island and steal Elixirs from the mobs there, as they will die in one turn automatically anyways.

Also remember: The shield holder must not be dead at the end of the battle. AND the shield holder cannot be Gogo.

    And omg....

    Every Lore spell.

I have EVERY Lore Spell. Fucking righteous.
