Kain is actually a very well-developed and complex character. Whereas Cecil was pretty linear (Oh gay, I gotta slay people. Damn. I don't wanna be a Dark Knight boo hoo) Kain has to deal with the woman of his dreams being in love with his best friend, not living up to the expectations of being the paragon of a Dragoon's honor, being manipulated by Golbez, and not only watching, but participating in the corruption of his own kingdom (Which I guess Cecil had to deal with too.)

Actually, as far as villains, I'm going to have to go with Sephiroth. He's the most interesting overall, to me. He's a recurring character with some sense of motivation that you can at least identify. Kefka is a nut, but just being insane isn't all that interesting to me, personally. Also, all the other main villains from 8-12 are pretty underdeveloped and uninteresting. Golbez is pretty cool, though.

tbh I don't remember much about kuja, so... yeah, lol. As I recall, he wasn't even made out to be the big baddy until the very end of the game? And maybe it was just his look, but he always kinda seemed like Sephiroth lite to me.

I just finished replaying through 9, and I can say that he's an ass and the obvious main villian from CD1.

I thought everything involving him in CD3 (which is pretty much the entire CD) was very well done, and you really got to see how he changes over time until he snaps and enters trance form and destroys Terra.

I don't think he's quite up there with Sephiroth, but he's a close runner-up.

ok, yeah, I just read the wikipedia FF9 plot summary, since I only played through the game once, and that was the year it came out. Kuja might be one of the better villains in recent FF games.

I liked Kuja as a villain, just thought he dressed funny. I especially liked how Queen Brahne in FF9 also refered to his "girly face". But hey, Kefka was a clown who turned into some super-built angel and had already conquered and destroyed the world. Whatever.

Honestly, Sephiroth wasn't much of a villain. Pretty much the real villain was Jenova, and everyone was genetic clones of each other with mako injected into them. People just think he's badass because he wears a trenchcoat and killed one of the people of a love triangle. The end.

For the record, Ultimecia was a fucking stupid villain too. Same with Yu Yevon.
