But I don't think I'd call Alexisonfire part of a "scene". Metric, thats a band thats part of a scene. For me, I'd define a "scene" as something that isn't all that mainstream. I don't classify Alexisonfire as emo, but most people do, and emo is for certain extremely popular and mainstream. Emo is just another genre at this point. Alexis doesn't sound like them though, they're not whiney suburban kids(side note, they are subarban kids though) like Simple Plan complaining about why their parents don't understand them.

Im 24 now, and I liked music from that "scene" when I was your age lol.. I still call it scene because thats the best way I can describe it. The word scene often has a negative connotation to it, and I dont mean it in that way in this case.

I know theyre not like the Simple Plans of the world. I didnt make that comparison. But still, there is something about the lyrics, and I cant really explain it, that sound so juvenile and immature to me.

Nowadays I listen to older music more than anything else. Stuff that my parents listened to while I was growing up (i.e.: Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Van Halen, etc). It means more to me than stuff that comes out now, I think, because it takes me back to when I was younger and didnt have a care in the world.

See, thats completely different for me, the lyrics from Alexis aren't juvenile and immature to me, perhaps they're self-titled first album, but not the last two, Watch Out! and Crisis. And, I don't know for sure, I'm just assuming, but you probably don't own either of those. I suggest actually looking up the lyrics and reading them, theres alot of imagery, metaphor and depth to them, especially Crisis. But everyone has different views on such things, I dig your taste in music for serious, Fleetwod Mac is the shit, Rumors is an amazing Album.

I just started listening to 30 seconds to mars recently. I know it has nothing to do with the conversation but it's bugging me. Does anyone else notice that almost every song is the same format so to speak? I mean I like the songs, Jared Leto has a great voice but it seems they like making songs where they repeat the same line/phrase/word for like 2 minutes. Each time they say it they gradually get more emotional to the "climax" so to speak.

Yeah I noticed that too with them, that's why I never re-downloaded anything from them when I got bored and deleted all my music.

I hate when I do that btw, because five seconds later I want to listen to something I just deleted.

But you can't discredit a band for being infuential on alot of modern music. Like I said, everyone has a different view on stuff, which is why I try not to actually come out and say "X band sucks gay nuts"

I enjoy'd 311's cover of love song, I think it did it justice. As far as the Cure, I think alot of thier music was very influential to today's society as far as the modern music. I'm not one of those omg "the scene" or "emo" or whatever other label you put on a medium. I'd rather think that good music thats well played is just that.

Which reminds me, these "3 chord whore" scream bands are nothing more then that. A bunch of no talent hacks that lack any type of musical training. Nothing other then screaming into a mic playing the same thing over and over and over. But you say the deftones scream, yes but they have a proven musical backing behind them, pitch, timbre, tone; the things that real music actually has. Am I saying that they arn't enjoyable to listen too, no; it's just not my thing. I'd rather hear a melody and harmony as opposed to someone growling or screaming. Anyone can do that, it takes talent to comprise real muscianship.

I actually have more respect for some of the hiphop artists, well the ones that actually come up with thier own beats instead of rehashing old "Police" songs with new words over it.

I'm sorry, playing a guitar, wether its 3 chords over and over, or shredding a FACE MELTER! Is much more talented than sitting behind a computer, soundboard or w/e and pushing buttons. I don't listen to that repetitive crap, but implying that hip-hop is more credible is pretty laughable.

I'm saying that it involves more talent, not necessarily musical talent. anyone and their brother can learn G Em and D and scream into a Mic. Don't compare the the people who are actually talented on guitar to the screamer bands.

Ever heard of Slayer? Metallica? Pretty sure they screamed, pretty sure Hettfield and Hammet are talented guitar players.
And the bands that actually play 3 chords and scream over and over can go to hell, which is mostly what the sing about.
While they are my favorite band and I enjoy talking about them, Alexisonfire are amazing musicians. The way one of their members sings has no relation to their skill as musicians. A band CAN have a screamer and have a very talented guitar player AT THE SAME TIME AMIRITE!?!??

Because it actually takes some amount of motor skills and co-ordination to play a melody on guitar, bass, drums, flute or piano; which, judging by the amount of times I've seen hip-hop artist's and rapper's pants below their asses, they don't have much of. I can humm a toon in my head easily, transcribing it into tablature, or actual music for that matter, and playing on a particular instrument is a different story.

Hey, I like Daft Punk for pete's sake. I never said I didn't like that kind of music, I was focusing specifically on hip-hop and rap, cause that was what was brought up.

Yeah I like The Postal Service, I like Death Cab For Cutie, same singer right? But, here's the thing, they actually play instruments. I've never seen, "FOR EXAMPLE" Jay-Z play an instrument. You have to actually grasp the theory of music to be talented.
