You no longer require any registration codes of any kind to create additional content ID's / characters if you already have an existing, registered, active content ID.

Also additional characters you make on your current account automatically go to your first characters server without world pass (this is a partial assumption, I test made two mules and both went to my server automatically, back to back, and I tried to name a mule after someone else on my server when no server was specified for the new character, and it said that name was already in use).

Don't know if this was changed along time ago and everyone knows about it, but its a godsend for me since I've been wanting a mule for like 2 years but had no codes to use, I just randomly discovered this today.

this has been this way since the dawn of time... all chars after first one auto go to same server

No they still go to the same account, so only one can be logged in at once.

I noticed this quite a while ago, at one time i couldn't make mules since i lost my registration codes, decided to try again one day and it worked.

So yeah, they definately changed that one day without telling anyone.

Really ? :D I've been wanting to make some more mules but wasn't able to because I lost my book ages ago and didn't have the codes anymore ._.; POL wouldn't/couldn't give me the code back and told me I'd have to buy another copy, which was really annoying.. kind of a nice change, I always thought that was kind of stupid.

When I started playing in march 2004, the 1st mule I created was not on the same server than my main char (was on Quetz and my main has always been on Lakshmi). Back then I had to get a world pass. A few weeks/months later when I created other mules, they were automagically set to Lakshmi...I guess it was changed around summer of 2004.

Hmmm I started on Dec 04, i created 4 mules since then and each time you need that super long registration code to be keyed in before i can purchase new ID. One year plus later, i realise i misplaced those code, i am unable to create a new mule until the recent change.

started in november 03, and even back then mules automatically went to same server as the first content ID made.

As for buying new IDs, that is definently a change. When a friend quit a bit over 2 years ago I took over his account, and wanted to add a mule to it but couldnt because he had lost his reg codes. This is a nice change to know since he never did find them, and I would like to add a mule still. Thanks for the info.

I bought a new copy of ff to get my codes (I was never good at keeping track of things._.; ), because it asked me for them to create mules.

You definitely needed your codes to make mules for the update a short while back, which also isn't news since it was advertised on the PoL site.

This was part of the customer service area improvements that they made several months ago. I don't know if they specified it directly, but they did say that it would now remember certain details so they wouldn't have to be constantly re-entered.
